Get some lysine tablets and take a tablet several times a day. IT helps fight the sore. BUy Abreva cream and keep the spot lubricated. I use Vaseline. Don't let it dry out to much. And drink plenty of water. In three days it won't disappear but will look much better.

I take oil of oregano for allergies. In my research on oil of oregano, there is a TON of info on using this for cold sores and other viral infections. Can be applied topically or taken orally or both! Google it! Good luck!

One word ... Abreva!

Your doctor can also prescribe a pill-valtrex, but it has to be taken at the very first sign of the cold sore. I get one about every year, sometimes twice, and my doctor wrote me an RX for it and I always carry it in my purse. It really works wonders. If I catch it right away and start taking the valtrex it pretty much stops the cold sore in its tracks. (maybe you can get a script for the next time) I've tried so many things and the valtrex is the only thing that seems to work well and fast.
I also use abreva along with the RX and I also am sure to clean it with alcohol before applying the abreva-it helps dry it up. And yes, the vaseline is good too as it keeps your lips from getting dry and cracked.
Before getting my RX I've tried so many other things and even with the abreva they still always seem to last a good 7-10 days.

I had one not long ago and had run out of my medication - I dabbed some apple cider vinegar on it (it was just started to tingle) and it was gone. Good Luck - they are annoying

Nothing else works for me, but Valtrex (oral) and Zovirax (topical).

I have struggled with cold sores since in my teens and that's along time. I use Lysine ointment and Campho -Phenique. I will also add that use vaseline to keep it moist at night. You don't want to let it dry out or it will scab over and crack open again. I know they are not good to look at and they feel awful. I hope this helps you. If you can catch them when you first feel them begin to itch, attack it with the campho-phenique and Lysine. Good Luck.

Five Thieves essential oil. It's a blend of five oils. Several brands out there. It's been used for centuries to fight infections of all kinds. I never go without it. I keep some in my med chest.
