Re: Anyone use prescriptions for chronic constipation such as Linzess, Ibsrela, Trulance, if so...

[ Edited ]

@AngelPuppy1  I can identify with everything you said.

I have had a lot of diarrhea on the Linzess so last week my doctor told me to take it every other day so I'm hoping this will work. My problems have been so bad that I am homebound till late afternoon. I make all my appointments 3pm or after.  This started around 2 or 3 yrs. ago so it has changed my life greatly. I can't even go to church anymore so I watch it on TV. It helps me to "keep the faith". Although I am not physically healed it helps me not to give up when

 that feeling of not wanting to go on comes upon me.

God Bless You.  I will keep praying for you. I understand all too well where you are coming from.

I have been dealing with this for so many years and have tried almost everything mentioned  here.

@AngelPuppy1 --yes, there is senna in it as well as peppermint, licorice root, and fennel--so is licorice forward in taste--which I don't mind--however, drinking it at room temp , you can drink it quickly if you don't like that flavor--I tried the other things but seemed like they  took forever to get things moving--this tea was not that way--but there was no urgency either.

I have had chronic IBS C for years. I tried Ibsrella and Trulance and Linzess. I took Lynzess, which worked the best, for almost 3 years. It worked so well. I noticed my hair started falling out at that some time. My vacuum would be full of hair, my furniture, my clothes were covered in hair. I tried everything. I had a feeling it was the Lynzess but every doctor told me that wasn't the case.  It was menopause, hormones, thyroid, etc. I finally stopped taking it and my hair stopped falling out. I take miralax and metamucel and try to do get something to work but I still take lynzess about once a week. Every thing that has been mentioned I have tried. Prunes, apricots, kiwi, literally everything.  It's an on going battle but my hair stopped falling out immediately. I may be the only one so I am not saying this will happen to everyone. But that was my experience. Doctor still doesn't believe me about it. After 3 months of no Linzess I have a full head of hair with no hair in drain where there used to be a ball of hair every time I washed my hair.

@KCDiva

You said you now only take Linzell once a week.  Do you still do that?  Just wondering.  Thank you!  Doctors don't tell you have the stuff they should!

Yes I do or maybe twice.I haven't taken it every day in months. I also lowered the dosage to the 72mg. I had been taking the 145mg. I think it was just too "effective" for me and I lost some weight and then my hair started falling out. I appreciated the  weight loss but not the hair loss. I knew it was the medication.

One of my kids came with this. There has never been a medical reason they can find and they exercise and run. Traveling for business is a killer, really drives home how bad restaurant food is.

What works is to faithfully track fiber and fluid. Aim for daily amounts. Do you have goals for each day? For each?

Good luck, there are others out there dealing with this.

@Still Raining

It is hard, as you know from having a child with this!  You suffer, you truly suffer.  I track everything.  I write all kinds of things down daily.  From what I eat, to my exercise, to whether I go or not go, and other things which I will not write here, etc.!  Thanks for your wishes.

As a toddler there was straining.  It was sad.  As far as I know they do 40 for fiber and 70 for liquid and it has worked.  Best wishes.  And a little TMI, no hemorrhoids.

I tried all of the RX meds for constipation and they were no help to me.

But it seems that my body inside is dry...and besides stool softeners, I still go back to the mineral oil. Taking a few tiny sips throughout the day is providing a lot of relief!

@LTT1

Mineral oil?  Good grief -- I never heard of such a thing.  It seems my digestive tract must be very dry as well.  I would be afraid to do that.  I would ask my doctor before I did that.  Thanks!

@AngelPuppy1 :

My chronic constipation started in childhood many decades ago, and mineral oil taken orally on a spoon was one of the few remedies at that time.  It was a big "eww" though.

Definitely ask your doctor but also research it thoroughly, especially when it comes to any RX or otc meds you take daily.

@AngelPuppy1 Do you drink a lot of water throughout the day? Works for me...I rarely have issues.

Try drinking ginger tea. It has worked for me when I have constipation.

I don't.  I have had issues since I was a child.  I have had many tests and nothing has shown.  I eat well also.  Fresh fruit and vegetables.  Also, exercise regularly.  No, I don't think you are bragging.  Some people just apparently have better digestive systems than others!

I have not read all the replies so this may have been covered.

Sorry you've been dealing with this. Given the bolded part above, a lot of times, physical issues have emotional and/or mental components so what is it that you don't want to let go of?

examples:

grudges > forgiveness

have to be right > humility

'do it my way' > flexibility

'that's not fair' > acceptance

@ThinkingOutLoud

Wow!  I realize that emotional components have a connection to a lot of physical problems we have.  But I don't really think that I am here to get a psych evaluation!

@AngelPuppy1 So very sorry that it came out that way. I can only imagine what you are going through is quite awful. Most of us here just want to help, so again I am sorry about how it came off. I sure didn't mean to insinuate you are not trying.

   This may seem a stretch, but is it possible that your skeletal system could be out of whack from something and causing a blockage somewhere? Even something from a while ago. I only ask that because years ago a Lady I was talking to in our Office, we got into a conversation about health etc. and she told me her personal story. She had similiar issues as yourself, and like you, had been to  many Doctors and Specialists with no results. Except for one that told her to go to a Chiropractor. I know this sounds strange, and she thought it was odd, but as it turned out, that Doctor was right. Something somewhere in her skeletal system had gone askew, and there was nerve compression, and was pressing on an organ and causing her blockage. I will never forget that story because it was enlightning and a learning experience at the same time. It is true that we don't pay enough mind to our skeletal system being in alignment until it really hurts, but to realize what can happen when it isn't, was something I would never have imagined. Thank God for that one Specialist to not only put her ego aside as not being able to help her, but to actually make all the difference in the end. If you haven't tried this approach yet and are willing to try anything, please consider this. Wishing you the best, and please keep us posted.

@KittySoftPaws

Thank you for your apology and I truly appreciate it.  Who knows?  I have been going to a chiropractor for years since I have also chronic back issues.  I don't know.  After awhile, you just get to where you don't know where to turn or what to do any more.

My husband had great issues with that and I am thankful that I never have.  He could have done more for himself I felt at times but he was on a lot of medications too. Poor guy and always felt so bad for him.

When I look back I think he probably did all he could and at some point no matter what a person just doesn't help much.    I get it more now.  He was so miserable when things were not going right.

@Roscoe the Rascal

I know some people just expect a pill to do eveything and when it doesn't, they get upset.  I think pills are great when they are needed and I won't put them down.  Do I wish I could get this fixed without them?  Of course!  I have tried, and tried and tried.  I break down in tears and have been so miserable at times. People who have never had this issue have no idea how much it affects your whole life!  I am going to try this med and if it doesn't work, then I am again going to try the natural route or try things on the market.  It's just a vicious cycle!  Thanks for your post.

Lots of other medications can cause constipation as well.  It is an awful situation. I do feel bad for you and I know how hard it is.
