Re: Anyone use prescriptions for chronic constipation such as Linzess, Ibsrela, Trulance, if so...

@geezerette

These meds are sooo expensive!  It's terrible.  People have no idea.  And then for them to stop working!  Grrrr.  I will just keep trying things.  I hope -- and more importantly - pray - that something I come across will give me the answer that I need.  Thank you so much!

@AngelPuppy1  I can identify with everything you said.

I have had a lot of diarrhea on the Linzess so last week my doctor told me to take it every other day so I'm hoping this will work. My problems have been so bad that I am homebound till late afternoon. I make all my appointments 3pm or after.  This started around 2 or 3 yrs. ago so it has changed my life greatly. I can't even go to church anymore so I watch it on TV. It helps me to "keep the faith". Although I am not physically healed it helps me not to give up when

 that feeling of not wanting to go on comes upon me.

God Bless You.  I will keep praying for you. I understand all too well where you are coming from.

I have been dealing with this for so many years and have tried almost everything mentioned  here.

@jubilant

So, you know exactly how I feel!  This med - ha - awful!  You don't know when it will work or how long it takes!  You can't go any place for fear it will strike!  I feel like I am a prisoner to my digestive tract!  I often have to make appointments or have other places I have to be at a certain time and this is just so inconvenient.  I am well and truly just sick of it!  I guess we are both in pretty much the same predicament.

Thank you so much for your sweet and kind words and God Bless you as well.  We must always pray for a healing, right?  Take care!

@AngelPuppy1 --yes, there is senna in it as well as peppermint, licorice root, and fennel--so is licorice forward in taste--which I don't mind--however, drinking it at room temp , you can drink it quickly if you don't like that flavor--I tried the other things but seemed like they  took forever to get things moving--this tea was not that way--but there was no urgency either.

@wagirl

You drink it every day - or just when you feel necessary??  Thank you -- I appreciate this.

I have had chronic IBS C for years. I tried Ibsrella and Trulance and Linzess. I took Lynzess, which worked the best, for almost 3 years. It worked so well. I noticed my hair started falling out at that some time. My vacuum would be full of hair, my furniture, my clothes were covered in hair. I tried everything. I had a feeling it was the Lynzess but every doctor told me that wasn't the case.  It was menopause, hormones, thyroid, etc. I finally stopped taking it and my hair stopped falling out. I take miralax and metamucel and try to do get something to work but I still take lynzess about once a week. Every thing that has been mentioned I have tried. Prunes, apricots, kiwi, literally everything.  It's an on going battle but my hair stopped falling out immediately. I may be the only one so I am not saying this will happen to everyone. But that was my experience. Doctor still doesn't believe me about it. After 3 months of no Linzess I have a full head of hair with no hair in drain where there used to be a ball of hair every time I washed my hair.

@KCDiva

You said you now only take Linzell once a week.  Do you still do that?  Just wondering.  Thank you!  Doctors don't tell you have the stuff they should!

Yes I do or maybe twice.I haven't taken it every day in months. I also lowered the dosage to the 72mg. I had been taking the 145mg. I think it was just too "effective" for me and I lost some weight and then my hair started falling out. I appreciated the  weight loss but not the hair loss. I knew it was the medication.

@KCDiva

Thank you for your response!  I started taking the Ibsrela.  This dosage says 1 pill a.m. before breakfast and 1 pill before your dinner or supper, whatever you call it.  Yesterday, after I took the first pill --oh, boy -- I won't go into details, but I was quite busy for several hours!  I decided I was not going to take the second dosage that day.  Also, I have a couple of medical appointments today and I can't be tied to the house today.  I know when they give you the directions for these meds they probably expect you to follow them exaqctly, but honestly --- our bodies are all different, so how can we all be treated exactly the same and with the exact dosages?  Can't be possible in my book!  Good luck.  I hope you have better results and no more hair loss!

One of my kids came with this. There has never been a medical reason they can find and they exercise and run. Traveling for business is a killer, really drives home how bad restaurant food is.

What works is to faithfully track fiber and fluid. Aim for daily amounts. Do you have goals for each day? For each?

Good luck, there are others out there dealing with this.

@Still Raining

It is hard, as you know from having a child with this!  You suffer, you truly suffer.  I track everything.  I write all kinds of things down daily.  From what I eat, to my exercise, to whether I go or not go, and other things which I will not write here, etc.!  Thanks for your wishes.

As a toddler there was straining.  It was sad.  As far as I know they do 40 for fiber and 70 for liquid and it has worked.  Best wishes.  And a little TMI, no hemorrhoids.

@Still Raining

Yes, me, also.  having a lifetime with these issues it really wears on a person!  Thanks for your post - I appreciate it!

I tried all of the RX meds for constipation and they were no help to me.

But it seems that my body inside is dry...and besides stool softeners, I still go back to the mineral oil. Taking a few tiny sips throughout the day is providing a lot of relief!

@LTT1

Mineral oil?  Good grief -- I never heard of such a thing.  It seems my digestive tract must be very dry as well.  I would be afraid to do that.  I would ask my doctor before I did that.  Thanks!

@AngelPuppy1 :

My chronic constipation started in childhood many decades ago, and mineral oil taken orally on a spoon was one of the few remedies at that time.  It was a big "eww" though.

Definitely ask your doctor but also research it thoroughly, especially when it comes to any RX or otc meds you take daily.

@feline groovy

I'm glad this is helpful for you!  I am supposed to contact the dr.'s office in a few days to see how this med is working and I will ask them about this.  At this stage in the game, I about willing to try anything as long as it gives me some peace!  Thank you!

I think I do!  But how much is a lot, do you think?  Do they base it on our weight, age or what???  I know I don't drink as much in the winter as I do in the summer.  Thanks.  I seem to have the same issues all year long though!

Try drinking ginger tea. It has worked for me when I have constipation.

Not to be nosy, but do you have to drink it often?  And once you drink this tea, does it work pretty quickyly?  If not something you care to answer, then I get it.  This is somewhat of a personal issue.  Thanks!

[ Edited ]

I don't have to drink it often. Maybe twice a month. It usually takes a couple of hours to take affect after i drink the tea. I suggest that you stay close to a bathroom when you drink the tea. You don't want to be traveling during this time.

Re: Anyone use prescriptions for chronic constipation such as Linzess, Ibsrela, Trulance, if so...

@AngelPuppy1 --usually I drank it maybe 2 nights---I never needed it much really. My onc dr was always kind of surprised when I told her my system was not overly saturated with side effects from 5 months of chemo---but one thing I did every day was make a super duper green smoothie in the mornings.I believe that was my saving grace. Put alot of greens in it --wonder if you thought about that maybe? I have a vitamix so whipping it up was a breeze--always smooth and actually pretty delicious. but the tea worked for me right away--in hours not RIGHT away.
