@KittySoftPaws wrote:Sorry you are going through this, but you need to get off the cycle of treating symptoms instead of the cause. I take a high quality probiotic every day and drink plenty of water. I eat a variety of fruits and veggies and oatmeal almost daily for breakfast. I don't know if you have any physical restrictions, but if not, you must move your body as much as possible. It is designed for it, and moving stimulates the muscles that "move" things along. I am regular daily and when I use my mini rebounder 15 min a day, it stimulates me to go again. Prescriptions have their place and at times are necessary, but they are out of control, used for every single little problem. Doctors unfortunatley are only trained in pharma drugs and not nutrition or getting to the cause of the problem.
I appreciate your comments but I have tried everything under the sun. I do everything you have listed. I am not a couch potato as you might think! I exercise daily, drink plenty of water and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. I have been tested for all sorts of things regarding gastrointestinal issues and other medical issues and have just been told I have chronic constipation -- which I have had my whole life! So, while I appreciate your comments, which I am sure you meant to be helpful, sort of come off as being critical and like I am turning to drugs and not trying to help myself.

@missy mouse wrote:I have IBS C. I tried all of the Rx drugs. Now i use miralax daily and have no problems. It's a lot cheaper than the prescription drugs. They did nothing for me.
I tried that, tried citrocel, and most other things of this nature. They seemed to work at first, and then stopped.

@PamfromCT wrote:Last year I had COVID, then Bronchitis. I was prescribed antibiotics, quite a bit. Of course, it affected me greatly. Went to a gastro doctor who prescribed a very strong drug. Was horrible. I decided to take matters in my hands with Lessman's Fibermucil, two capsules at night. And dare I say I have discovered prune juice, as well. Really helps! The good kind with no pulp - "Sunsweet Amazing Prune Juice." My diet alone wasn't working, but this combo works well for me.
I take a very good probiotic prescribed by my doctor because I have in the past have also had to take multiple antibiotics. Sorry you had to go through this! I have also kept prune juice in my fridge and also prunes, too. These worked for a while and then they didn't either. I will look into that product you mentioned. Thank you.

@kaydee50 wrote:@AngelPuppy1 My mother had chronic constipation and this was before any prescription drugs were available. IMO she did not drink enough liquids. For me whenever things "slow down" I eat 6 -8 prunes a day for several days and in a pinch take an Ex-Lax. I know constipation is uncomfortable to say the least.
Good luck in finding a solution.
I know this sounds like a trivial thing but until a person experiences this themselves, they don't understand how it affects your whole life! If your digestive system is bad, you feel bad all over! I used to eat prunes all the time. Also, prune juice. It got to where they did nothing for me. I did not want to get to where I relied on laxative as this is not a healthy thing to do. Thanks so much!

One of my kids came with this. There has never been a medical reason they can find and they exercise and run. Traveling for business is a killer, really drives home how bad restaurant food is.
What works is to faithfully track fiber and fluid. Aim for daily amounts. Do you have goals for each day? For each?
Good luck, there are others out there dealing with this.
It is hard, as you know from having a child with this! You suffer, you truly suffer. I track everything. I write all kinds of things down daily. From what I eat, to my exercise, to whether I go or not go, and other things which I will not write here, etc.! Thanks for your wishes.

My husband had great issues with that and I am thankful that I never have. He could have done more for himself I felt at times but he was on a lot of medications too. Poor guy and always felt so bad for him.
When I look back I think he probably did all he could and at some point no matter what a person just doesn't help much. I get it more now. He was so miserable when things were not going right.

- The only product that has worked for me has a very funny name but really works. It is called Poop Doc. It is on Amazon. You can check it out. I am sorry I wasted years with a constipation problem which led to hemorrhoids. It is on the pricey side but I would not be without it. You can taylor the dosage to your needs until you find what works for you. I saw a commercial for this on a wellness channel years ago. I was so happy to find something that really worked for me. It works within 3 to 6 hours. If you decide to try it, I really hope it works for you. Good Luck!
Thank you. Have you used this for long? I just ask because so many things work for awhile and then suddenly they don't. This has been what has happened with me.

Do you take magnesium? I take 250mg at night. Some of my friends take it in the morning as if taken at night it can cause vivid dreams.
I kind of like that aspect now ha.
It works like a charm. As long as you drink lots of water.
I don't. I take a lot of prescription meds. I don't know if this would interfere with them. I also take a lot of vitamins and other things. I have heard that this can kind of have a laxative property.

@feline groovy wrote:I've had IBS-C (irritable bowel syndrome with constipation) for decades.
I try to get as much fiber, fluids (especially water), and exercise as possible everyday, I also take a mixed probiotics supplement daily.
But after trying several RX's over many years, the best thing my favorite GI doc put me on is over-the-counter: Miralax.
It's polyethylene glycol powder (I call it "poop powder", haha) and you can buy any generic brand of it.
I mix it into my morning tea everyday and it works like a charm most of the time.
Good luck!
Miralax worked for a while for me and then it stopped. Same with Citrocel. Glad it works for you! Thanks for your post!

@wagirl wrote:I'm not dealing with that issue, but when I was going thru chemo and needed a little help---I used a tea called Smooth Move. It's in the grocery tea aisle, has 20 bags for around $5. Is a natrual product, no caffiene and tastes like licorice--because that is one of the ingredients. I brewed it up and then let it cool and drank it at bedtime. Always worked by morning.
I think of have seen this in the store. I think it has senna in it, doesn't it? I will put it on my last. Thanks!
