Re: Anyone use prescriptions for chronic constipation such as Linzess, Ibsrela, Trulance, if so...

@AngelPuppy1

Do you take magnesium?  I take 250mg at night.  Some of my friends take it in the morning as if taken at night it can cause vivid dreams.

I kind of like that aspect now ha.

It works like a charm.  As long as you drink lots of water.

[ Edited ]

I've had IBS-C (irritable bowel syndrome with constipation) for decades.

I try to get as much fiber, fluids (especially water), and exercise as possible everyday,  I also take a mixed probiotics supplement daily.

But after trying several RX's over many years, the best thing my favorite GI doc put me on is over-the-counter: Miralax.

It's polyethylene glycol powder (I call it "poop powder", haha) and you can buy any generic brand of it.

I mix it into my morning tea everyday and it works like a charm most of the time.

Good luck!

I'm not dealing with that issue, but when I was going thru chemo and needed a little help---I used a tea called Smooth Move. It's in the grocery tea aisle, has 20 bags for around $5. Is a natrual product, no caffiene and tastes like licorice--because that is one of the ingredients. I brewed it up and then let it cool and drank it at bedtime. Always worked by morning.

I tried all of the RX meds for constipation and they were no help to me.

But it seems that my body inside is dry...and besides stool softeners, I still go back to the mineral oil. Taking a few tiny sips throughout the day is providing a lot of relief!

Along with everything you already know about--diet, liquids, exercise--plain old psyllium daily.  Anywhere from a tablespoon or more depending on the need.  In a large glass of water followed by at least another half glass.

It works gently and controls both constipation and diarrhea.  And it's relatively inexpensive and easy.

my mother takes miralax daily. she has what he called "large stool volume." she also has other health issues and takes a lot of medicines.

that is what her gastro doctor recommended.

it mixes easily into coffee in the morning. she tried the gummy and didnt like them, so the powder is what she uses. she started with a capful, but that was too much. now she uses 1/4 - 1/2 cap.

Re: Anyone use prescriptions for chronic constipation such as Linzess, Ibsrela, Trulance, if so...

I have had chronic IBS C for years. I tried Ibsrella and Trulance and Linzess. I took Lynzess, which worked the best, for almost 3 years. It worked so well. I noticed my hair started falling out at that some time. My vacuum would be full of hair, my furniture, my clothes were covered in hair. I tried everything. I had a feeling it was the Lynzess but every doctor told me that wasn't the case.  It was menopause, hormones, thyroid, etc. I finally stopped taking it and my hair stopped falling out. I take miralax and metamucel and try to do get something to work but I still take lynzess about once a week. Every thing that has been mentioned I have tried. Prunes, apricots, kiwi, literally everything.  It's an on going battle but my hair stopped falling out immediately. I may be the only one so I am not saying this will happen to everyone. But that was my experience. Doctor still doesn't believe me about it. After 3 months of no Linzess I have a full head of hair with no hair in drain where there used to be a ball of hair every time I washed my hair.

A product that my gastro recommeded  for me to use is Benefiber.  I really like this product because it mixes well in liquids or food.  I put 2 teaspoons in my tea every morning.  Sometimes use it more often if I am still having issues.
