I tried all of the RX meds for constipation and they were no help to me.
But it seems that my body inside is dry...and besides stool softeners, I still go back to the mineral oil. Taking a few tiny sips throughout the day is providing a lot of relief!
Mineral oil? Good grief -- I never heard of such a thing. It seems my digestive tract must be very dry as well. I would be afraid to do that. I would ask my doctor before I did that. Thanks!

@geezerette wrote:Along with everything you already know about--diet, liquids, exercise--plain old psyllium daily. Anywhere from a tablespoon or more depending on the need. In a large glass of water followed by at least another half glass.
It works gently and controls both constipation and diarrhea. And it's relatively inexpensive and easy.
Any particular brand or product? Thanks!

@sunshine45 wrote:my mother takes miralax daily. she has what he called "large stool volume." she also has other health issues and takes a lot of medicines.
that is what her gastro doctor recommended.
it mixes easily into coffee in the morning. she tried the gummy and didnt like them, so the powder is what she uses. she started with a capful, but that was too much. now she uses 1/4 - 1/2 cap.
Glad that works for her. It unfortunately did not work for me -- well, it did at first but then it stopped. Thanks!

@KCDiva wrote:I have had chronic IBS C for years. I tried Ibsrella and Trulance and Linzess. I took Lynzess, which worked the best, for almost 3 years. It worked so well. I noticed my hair started falling out at that some time. My vacuum would be full of hair, my furniture, my clothes were covered in hair. I tried everything. I had a feeling it was the Lynzess but every doctor told me that wasn't the case. It was menopause, hormones, thyroid, etc. I finally stopped taking it and my hair stopped falling out. I take miralax and metamucel and try to do get something to work but I still take lynzess about once a week. Every thing that has been mentioned I have tried. Prunes, apricots, kiwi, literally everything. It's an on going battle but my hair stopped falling out immediately. I may be the only one so I am not saying this will happen to everyone. But that was my experience. Doctor still doesn't believe me about it. After 3 months of no Linzess I have a full head of hair with no hair in drain where there used to be a ball of hair every time I washed my hair.
You said you now only take Linzell once a week. Do you still do that? Just wondering. Thank you! Doctors don't tell you have the stuff they should!

@quilter61 wrote:A product that my gastro recommeded for me to use is Benefiber. I really like this product because it mixes well in liquids or food. I put 2 teaspoons in my tea every morning. Sometimes use it more often if I am still having issues.
How long have you been using Benefiber? Thanks!

@pdlinda wrote:@rockygems123 I have IBS mixed type. I manage both with food only except there are times when I need a Colace clear so I take one.
I eat 1 Kiwi, 5 prunes and about 1/2 cup of sauerkraut each day. I also take 250 mg Magnesium Citramate at night.
I couldn't eat sauerkraut every day. I also have acid reflux! I tried the Magnesium Citrate as my mother used to take this. I got so deathly sick and threw up! Oh, it was terrible. Glad these things work for you. I used to eat a lot of prunes and also prune juice. None of this stuff worked for me. Thanks!

I read your post and I feel for you -- so much! I can truly identify with you! I have been to the ER several times because I was in much pain and wasn't sure what was happening. It was because of the several constipation. I'm like you - I have had problems since I was a child. I have tried too many things to even mention! I was on Trulance for quite a few months and it really worked - it was terribly expensive though. It just recently stopped working and I was heartbroken! I went back to the gastrointestinal doctor and she suggested I go on Ibsrela - again. I had been on it once before quite a while ago and I didn't like it but she said, give it a try again - she gave me some samples.
I really hope the Linzess works for you. Nobody realizes how badly you feel when you have this problem. Many will criticize and say you are lazy or don't eat right or do what you should. They don't realize that most of us do everything we can to try and make ourselves healthier and these comments are hurtful.
I wish you all the best and hope you find this med works for you!

Walmart has a very good generic stool softener. I take it just before dinner and have great results.
Thank you. I tried various ones of these but they didn't make me have the desired results.

My doctor also said that people don't realize that too much fiber can cause you problems also. Some thing that the more fiber the better, but this is not always the case. Unfortunately, I cannot do caffeine due to other medical issues. Thanks for your post!
