Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

No I'm not doing anything extraordinary with my diet--just watching carbs and portions--adding lots of veggies and good grains--and am walking alot too. Have a few holiday lbs to lose but as soon as I can get out more, I think those will go away.

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

noom is expensive. I impulsively signed up a few months ago, paid $200. What an idiot. Then I didn't even use it. Couple days ago I weighed the highest I ever have. So I started the plan for real this time. Actually it isn't a defined plan. Based on your input you're given a calorie range. Eat, log everything, read their 2 min motivational articles, use the other tools and tips  reminds me of ww without the actual food plan. I should have downloaded a food tracker app instead of spending money on this. But whatever. I'll use Noom til my subscription runs out

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

WW for me, despite their troubles and lunatic former CEO.  I joined in 1999 and am still a member, at goal.

It's the only thing that's worked for me.  Prior to joining I'd spent my life yoyoing from one crazy diet to the next.  I hope they can keep the doors open.

@smoochy

I'll take about 15 of those pounds, please!  Can't seem to gain back what I lost with COVID.

Good luck with your weight loss!  You will do it!

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

@smoochy  I went to WW pre-pandemic and then gained everything back.  My doctor put me on Mounjaro a few months ago.   It has really diminished my cravings for junk food which allows me to make more sensible choices.

It's almost like I would be on a binge w/the junk food. There is a history of alcoholism in my family background and I wondered if that contributed to the sugar cravings.

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

@JeanLouiseFinch  My husband lost 70 lbs. and I lost 20 on the keto diet. But for the past year, we have slowly edged away from it as we have learned all of the fats and especially the high proteins, are very hard on the liver and kidneys. We have both since, kept the weight off by eating smaller portions and better quality foods. Carbs are essential in the diet, especially for the brain, but eating unrefined carbs is the key. The problem is too many of us are eating refined carbs, which include inflammatory seed oils that then make cholesterol dangerous. I have most recently began making my own Mayo and salad dressings because I can't find any decent ones in the store that are not packed with seed oils and corn syrups. I bought the Vitamix Immersion blender kit not long ago, and it has made making my own condiments so easy. The trick IMO and for us, with weight loss is to be patient and not rush it. It took some time to put it on, it will take some time to get it off. Today, too many want results that are instant and this is not only unhealthy, but non sustainable.

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

My A1C will be rechecked at the end of March, so I'm cutting back on sugar and carbs. There's so much to learn, and I'm not the best student. Now I'm seeing the term net carbs, which appears to be somewhat different. Anyway, I'm taking outside walks when the weather permits. I've lost some weight, which is another thing my doctor encouraged.

Thank you for your input.  I am in the best health of my adult life.  I agree with some but I also disagree with much of what you've stated, @KittySoftPaws.  One is that the ketogenic diet is high protein.  Followed appropriately, it's a moderate protein way if eating, which is perfectly fine for the liver and kidneys. Too much protein turns to sugar and gets stored as fat in the body.  The ketogenic diet also reverses a fatty liver and corrects insulin resistance.  This way of eating for us has been easy to adapt to and is very easily sustained.  I don't want to argue so I'm going to stop here.  You do you and I'll do me. Good luck.

Re: Anyone else on a weight loss plan

I have maintained about a 90 pound weight loss since 2008.  I started with eating 3 meals a day, with no sugar and no snacks.  Then I started intermittent fasting with an 8 hour eating window and 16 hour fast.  This was not hard for me to do, since I do not feel hungry as soon as I wake up.  The window started "shrinking" and I went to 2 meals in that period of time, and now I have been doing one meal a day in a 1-2 hour window.  I do not ingest anything with caffeine, and do not eat sugar.  I do eat complex and healthy carbs and fruit.  I don't drink diet soda or any juices and stick to water, decaf coffee and tea, or unflavored sparkling water.  This plan works for me and, since I have been a yo-yo dieter my whole life, this is the first time I have lost weight and not gained it all back plus an extra 10 pounds.
