Weight Watchers - Bankruptcy

It's being reported in the Wall Street Journal that WW International is preparing to file for bankruptcy.  Their revenue has seen significant decline due the rise in the use of Ozempic and similar weight loss medications.

That's very sad. WW was so beneficial for so many that followed it and had good results. Some want to eat balanced food, and many are not sold on the "jab" for weight loss and all it's reported side effects.

Declaring does not mean they will go out of business. I was very successful using their plan

It is a shame as it seems to have helped lots of people over many decades. Dang, I think of my mom, always going on and off it...working her whole dang life to keep her weight down. Lol, I remember in the 70's when she got "her pin" for reaching a goal. She later went to Curves in her 70s-80s. She had success on both...Curves was more for exercise, not diet.

I don't know details, only superficial things I hear, here and there, in the news, but I think they ruined WW...the Oprah factor, the Ozempic factor, the constantly switching types of plans, some easier and more successful to do than others. I saw comments on FB by many who really, really lamented the closing of the physical meetings, weigh-ins, "community" many expressed loving and needing that most.

Too many changes, hands in the pot, "keep up with the times", "breaking what didn't need fixing" I think...over the years.

Some say it ran its course. I don't know....without ALL the constant changing, I think it still could be working out there, but then, I don't know any of the business workings of it.

Should have never gone "O" or change to "WW" rebrand...that to me was the beginning of the end.

I tried it online, once, when I wanted to lose about 10 lbs...I found online to be frustrating, non user friendly...for me. I didn't stick with it. I wound up seeing a local nutritionist who was doing a local, hands-on, one on one program, I had much success with. So I can see how/why many said they preferred the in-person thing to just online.

There was our old family Dr. who told my mother way back in the 50’s the best diet plan was To Push Yourself Away from the Table !
Funny, how things like that stick in your mind .

Funny, while decluttering books just yesterday, found my mom's WW recipe book, circa 1966...funny to see it, looks so retro...I thought about keeping it just for the sentimental, retro factor....and the association with my mom...then forced myself to put it in the car for donation!

I'll never cook from it. Old timey cookbooks are fun to look at though.

I do have mom's "Culinary Institute" cookbook (I'm doubting she probably ever cooked from) circa the 50's, she likely received as a shower gift. I figure one cookbook for sentimental, retro value is enough.

I have always loved to cook.  Got married in '82 moving from my parents' home for the first time and was free to cook what I wanted when I wanted!  I gained 30 pounds!  A friend talked me into going to WW with her, and I lost it all and then some.  40 years later, I have never been that heavy again and manage to keep my weight near goal for the most part. I will always thank WW for giving me the ability to stay on or get back on track.

That's sad news, I'm sorry to know this. I think Oprah was the beginning of the end, I think she is polarizing. But I also think that the changing of the program was a mess. I tried joining them years ago (1970's!) and it was great, a big part of it for me was the camraderie. Ozempic and the like is probably taking it's toll killing the programs . . . I just hope it isn't doing the same to those that take the meds.

@We rescue cats  it has nothing to do with Oprah.  Read the article for facts.
