When I said scar, I meant scar tissue. The surgeon did a great job, I have no visible scars. What I feel is beneath the surface. It feels different from the other eyelid.

If it's a "given" that you plan to see your doctor, he should be able to look at the incision area, answer your question, and take any steps necessary to facilitate healing. My guess (I'm an old surgery medical assistant) is that you have some dissolvable stitches that haven't quite finished dissolving yet -- but there's no way for anyone else to know what kind of sutures the doctor used in the area or what you should expect in terms of healing or removal. Let him assess the situation and give you the facts.

3 months ago I had a cyst removed from my neck and it was closed with 9 sutures. They were removed 7 days after the incision was made. During the next 2 weeks, 3 pieces of remaining suture thread worked their way to the surface. I pulled them out with tweezers. (Yes, I was annoyed that so many pieces were left behind). There remained one slightly odd bump. I was pretty sure one piece of thread remained that was not working it's way to the surface. I pointed it out to the nurse practitioner at my one month followup checkup. She made a slight incision and removed the "bump" as she called it. She said she would have a talk with the person who had removed my stitches for doing such a poor job. Anyway, after she removed that "bump" my skin healed up fine.

I'm not requesting medical advice or assessment from anyone here; just personal experience. What kind of sutures I have is irrelevant, but the disolvable ones were grey and on the outside of the lid while the other sutures were black and on the inside.

cerb, thank you this is very similar to what I'm experiencing! My bump isn't visible, but I feel it. I hope he doesn't have to slice my lid open again. I'm going to ask him what the options are.

I'm watching CSI On Demand and there was a blurb about it. It's used for sutures, tennis racquets and violins.

If it is just a bumpy scar you can get a shot of something (maybe a steroid) to help smooth it out. I had that with my eye bleph and ptosis repair...it all smoothes out by 6 months or so. However, all the inside stitches did dissolve on their own. The outside ones were removed a week later ( of the surgery) and then I had steri strips.

Have had experience with hundreds, never had an issue with any of them.

My sutures were opposite yours: the inside ones were durable and removed a week later. The outside ones dissolved on their own.

It's an inside one I'm concerned about.

When you had the cortisone shot, how close to your eyeball was it?
