Sids, he's out until the end of February on vacation. His partner is taking his urgent patients, but I don't fit in that category.

Thanks for asking!

Re: Any First Hand Experiences with Stitches (Sutures)?

HonnyBrown, Playing and being a Ref in hockey all my adult life equals lots of cuts, and worse. Lost track of number of surgeries and invasive procedures, many of which required opening me up. Many were long before disolving stitches any many I removed myself. Sounds like a "BIG OUCH", but the mental part of being out of commission were much more painful for me. Hope things have worked out for you by now.

If it is just a bumpy scar you can get a shot of something (maybe a steroid) to help smooth it out. I had that with my eye bleph and ptosis repair...it all smoothes out by 6 months or so. However, all the inside stitches did dissolve on their own. The outside ones were removed a week later ( of the surgery) and then I had steri strips.

Hi wonderfulworld! Thanks for sharing!

My sutures were opposite yours: the inside ones were durable and removed a week later. The outside ones dissolved on their own.

It's an inside one I'm concerned about.

When you had the cortisone shot, how close to your eyeball was it?

My shot was into the outside corner of my eye lid. The bleph scar ran right along the crease and it was the outside of the crease at the very end...not uncommon for it be bumpy. The surgeon said it would even out on it's own or we could help it along with the injection which I chose. It did help. I would say it took a good three months for the scars to smooth out and six months for fading and bumpiness to go away and the true end results to show. My scars were very bumpy for quite a while.

I am sorry he is out of town. Would his nurse take a peek?

Hi John. I can imagine that being a hockey player would come with bumps and bruises. Just seeing it quantified into "hundreds of stitches" took me aback!

I had a rogue stitch a few months ago. It peeked out and I removed it myself with tweezers. No pain!

I'm fine; just the vain part of me keeps looking at this invisible bump.

Thanks for asking!!

The outside corner of your eyelid?

I think I'm going to faint.

teeny tiny needle...barely felt it. No worries. Where is your bump exactly? Like where crows feet start is where my bump was.

It's just to the right of my pupil and above by lash line.

Thank your for the advice to see the nurse! I was so creeped out by that teeny tiny needle that I didn't comprehend anything else.
