I have been doing both for a few years on and off. Recovering from severe sciatica in one leg and just got back into the pilates (been 4 months) now that I have the strength back in my leg. I still feel great after the pilates and I do think i prefer it over CS. I will continue to do both on alternate days and see how it goes.

@bargainsgirl I am a Pilates aficionado and I don't think you need to choose between the two. My workouts are a combination of reformer work with a personal trainer, mat pilates in a group class (we do a lot of movements like Miranda Esmonde White does on Classical Stretch), and working out along with Esmonde watching Classical Stretch.
I was introduced to PIlates before back surgery. The surgeon's policy was for all elective surgical patients to do 6 months of Pilates before surgery. He reasoned that some people didn't need surgery after gaining some newfound core strength (which helped with their back pain). Others still needed the surgery, but were on a better road to faster recovery, especially if they followed his plan of using Pilates as part of the physical therapy and rehabilitation. I did that 25 years ago and I'm still doing Pilates today. It has been wonderful to aid me through several aging issues and rehabilitation from surgeries.
