breast exams?  I did when I was younger, but have let it go by the wayside.  Honestly, the only time I think of it is when my doctor asks me if I do them.

I am going in the end of the week for my yearly thermogram and I know he will ask me again. Woman Frustrated  He gives me a breast exam every year because it is required when you have a thermogram.

Am I in the minority here?

I have a family history of breast cancer.  I have a mammogram and MRI every year.  Done so I'm seen every 6 months.  I do an exam every time I'm in the shower.  It was recommened to me to do it in the shower with suds by the doctor where I go for my mammograms.  She didn't say everytime I'm in the shower but I'm in there anyway so II do it.  That's how I found a sebacous cyst.  Of course I didn't know it was that but it was scary.

Re: DO YOU DO MONTHLY SELF

[ Edited ]

Excellent question, but I also stopped this, I would feel things, and I had no clue as to what I was feeling, normal, not normal ? So, I now rely on my annual mamm and when I see my internist and my GYN. I did just pay $40 to my radiology center for an addl AI mamm reading, something new that insurance does not cover yet.

Yes, I've continued self exams into my senior years.  I had two aunts who were diagnosed with breat cancer in their 70s and subsequently died of it.

My doctor just recently reminded me that it's important to continue self exams.

@tends2dogs  - I do annual mammograms without fail, but I don't do monthly self-exams like I should.  Your thread has reminded me that I need to start.  Thank you for bringing it up.

No breast cancer on either side of my family.  I don't do monthly exams, but during the course of showering, I would know if I felt something new.  My gyno told me at my physical in July that the important thing is to know what your breasts feel like so that you would notice a change. I get yearly mammograms.

Absolutely and I am well aware of the feel of my breasts. Family history of breast and ovarian cancer. Have Mammo and Sono every year.

I had a yearly mammogram in December of 2019, and early breast cancer was found. I have had yearly mammograms since I was 40.

I could not feel the tumor, and when it was removed they told me it was the size of a small English pea.

My mother was diagnosed with bc at the age of  83. She had not had a mammogram in several years. Her cancer had spread to stage 4 , and she passed 11 months later. Her final months were horrific.

Get regular mammograms please.
