Re: ASUS Computer International Recalls ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero Motherboards Due to Fire and Burn

Just to reassure anyone worried, this isn't an issue unless you built your own PC or had one custom-built for you. That's not a motherboard that's used in a typical commercial computer. This issue first popped up way, way earlier, and was dissected on the various computer building and support forums. It's very unlikely to be an issue anyone here has to fear at this point. The bad motherboards had issues very early on in their life and should all now be out of service. If you've used your computer for more than a few days, you're safe. The bad boards had issues very quickly.

@gardenman A capacitor on the motherboard was installed in a reverse position which can lead to a short circuit...

Yeah, it's been featured on many computer/tech sites for months now. Jayztwocents did a lot with it. Bitwit, Gamers Nexus, and Linus Tech Tips also had features on it. As did many other computer/tech sites. It was covered extensively when it was first discovered maybe nine months ago. Because the cap was installed backward, they failed quickly and dramatically. It's not a motherboard that's commonly used in commercial computers, but was mostly sold and used in custom computers. Unless you had a computer built six months or more ago and never turned it on, you shouldn't have an issue.
