Agree 100%!  DH and I have been traveling for close to 50 years and it's only in the past 10 or so that I've used packing cubes although I don't think they have been around all that long.  Not only on cruise ships but in hotel rooms I just put the cube in the drawer and feel my clothing is cleaner and better protected.  

I do think the compression cubes are the best and have been using them for the past couple of years.

I also don't get throwing away clothing so that you have room for what you purchased???  I don't think so!!!

I have both compression cubes( with 2 zippers) which take bulk down about half. My go to are largest zip top baggies. I fill them( works well for underwear and socks, nightgowns or dirty clothes) and then sit on them and zip lock them shut. Takes things down to almost nothing. 
Things get quite wrinkled so choose contents with that in mind. 

If you purchase compression cubes get the see through ones.

I use them and I have gifted them. I love them and it makes packing easier for me.

we have been using them for about 10 years...

i love them because:

keeps my things organzied

keeps my suitcase organized

can put right into drawers

we only travel with carry-ons, even for 10-12 days, so rarely is our bag opened

can put dirties in them

i feel they save space.

i love them for socks, undies, bras

they work for us.!

I don’t use them to save space but do use them for organization. I like putting them in drawers so my clothes do not touch surfaces used by others. I also use them to separate dirty clothes from clean.

I love packing cubes.  I also have used the clear plastic zippered bags from bedding.

I do throw out old underwear, socks.  also have tossed old black pants I wore on the plane. On long flights and red-eyes.  One time years ago I wore a new pair of tan crops and a cute blouse on the plane.  1st beverage service - promptly spilled coffee all over and wrecked my outfit.
