I have always found that they make packing easier

I have found that packing cubes allow me to pack more than I could otherwise especially the "compression" cubes. One of the best travel purchases I have ever made.

I carry ONE duffle bag. All major brand hotels have laundromats, in case you need to wash something...
You can wash your "unmentionables" in the bathroom sink using the complimentary shampoo...

@gellen I personally do not use cubes. I have always been a "roll" packer.
Also, instead of purchasing cubes, you can use the plastic cubes that come w/sheets. I use them to pack my shoes.

I tried them for the first time last year. I originally thought that they would just take up more room but if you use compression cubes you can pack more. Plus they also help to keep things better organized.
Of course the more you pack the heavier the bag.

I have used them for the last several years every time I travel. I am a fan, and I feel I can pack more, especially if you roll your items before placing them in the cubes.

Not just regular packing cubes, but compression packing cubes make all the difference to me. I only use carry-on luggage when I fly. I use the double zipper compression style, not the air vacuum style.
For example, I was able to pack for an 8-day cruise, with 3 extra outfits I didn't even end up wearing.

I don't use them. I think they take up too much space. I roll things, put them in gallon ziplock freezer bags, and then compress the bag while I'm sealing it. Works perfectly.

Are they worth it when you need to pack a lot of things for a month long trip; or do they just take up more room? Thanks in advance.
@gellen I always found them to take up more room than they were worth. For a long trip, if you can take some clothes you want to get rid of and wear them along the trip then toss. Old undies are great to toss, new ones are compact and take up little room in the suitcase.
Also, if you can maybe mail some dirty things home, insure them well and hope they get lost. Buy a couple new things along the way too. I always traveled with a little packing tape and a marker--boxes are easy to come by usually if you want to mail things home.
Worn clothing expands a lot. Use hotel laundry and it's expensive but it saves space and your clothes are fresheded nicely to be reworn.
