TV and Movies

Is it so hard to believe that a woman who was known for her beaurty, as she became elderly, maybe became very self-conscious and felt judged and pitied (I am guessing)? 
My Mother is reclusive and although was never known as a great beauty, was vain about her looks all her life - Once she turned 80, she didn't want to go out or see people. She is very hump-backed, and embarrassed. I know it's very sad, but I can understand it-

Cruel and tacky!  Hate to tell folks, but there are many women younger than Rachel who don’t look so wonderful.

I do remember many years ago, when Jackie O was dying and went out for a little walk in NYC, that she was photographed.

But Jackie was wearing a coat, still very thin, wearing a scarf on her head and trademark sunglasses.

If I cared about people criticizing me for how I look at my age, 

I would wear a long coat, head scarf, and big sunglasses.

But who cares?

@Tinkrbl44   That may be true but, if you look at the pic it appears someone took a pic of a random old woman at a busy intersection.  Not at a house or getting in or out of a car.

It's like the pap just happened to be at the right place at the right time to snap a pic of an old woman who allegedly is Raquel.

@Mz iMac There are several other pictures of her around that time and it's clear to see it was Raquel.  I doubted it at first, too.

I remember her doing a (made for TV) movie decades ago called 'Right to Die' in which she had been diagnosed with ALS.  She wore no makeup or was made up to look very ill and dying.  It was a brave move for her.  It was a good movie about a very bad situation.

Raquel sold jewelry on HSN many, many years ago.  I have a few of her pieces (fine 18k yellow and white gold). 

I remember her telling the host, who was literarlly blathering all over the place, 'Even I don't wake up looking like Raquel Welch'.  I loved that.

What's sad is, that she couldn't just age gracefully, with people realizing that she's no longer the stunning beauty of her working career years, but a retired individual just wanting to be left alone. Like most retirees her age.

It's particularly hard for women to age in our society where youth and physical attraction rules. And, as another poster stated, it's not the same for men.

I just saw a TV anchor reportedly saying women reach their peak at around 30 and are done before 50. Sadly, this is actually how we, as women, are judged by many men. It's no wonder women of age tend to self isolate.

Even for women who are not public figures, it can be a difficult time, being reminded that you're either becoming invisible to others, or judged as old, damaged goods.

@BlueFinch Sadly it's women who gossip more about how women than men.  Especially older women.  Not looking young is what some women fear most. Growing old.

In her last photographed outing, she looked pretty good to me.  RIP beautiful Raquel!
