Hi @deeva , hmmm, I'm not sure I believe that... I don't think you can fake the kind caring and connection he seemed to display all the time for other people (strangers)- Of course only those truly close know the real man...

According to TMZ the caring part is true, but it took a toll on him mentally.

Richard spent most days responding to all of the phone calls and letters from his fans wanting advice and comfort.

We don't know how much of what TMZ presented was based in fact or just speculation.

Like my parents always told me, consider the source of the information presented to you.

Interesting to read this thread as I was just thinking of Richard the other day and hoping he is well and happy.

I still use my old, old, food mover to try to help me with my portion control and weight maintenance.  He helped so many people back in the day.  I always got the feeling he was genuine and truly cared for his fans.

@SharkE Your post made me laugh.  Don't know why, and probably not nice to laugh, but it just struck me as funny.

deeva, I'm not aware of the documentary. Could you please tell me how to find it? I'd really like to watch it. If he really is an introvert, he sure did a good job of hiding it.

@Sweet Kitties  I read it will be available on the free app Tubi starting 8/30. If you don't have the Tubi app already, you can download it to watch the show and you can always uninstall it later. I have it and like it.

Being an introvert doesn't mean one can't put oneself "out there". It just means we need equal time to recharge. If Richard Simmons is living his best life recharging and relaxing, more power to him. BTW, the recharge may last years and years. I know.

It sounds to me like he was giving everything to everyone else until he had no more to give & there was nothing left for himself & he was just exhausted & burned out.

My experience was: My husband and I went to his class right up until the end. He was more flamboyant and femininely dressed every class. He did great in class but the end portion where we are sitting on the floor after mat work his pep talks were more emotional every week to the point my Navy officer husband was uncomfortable. He truly just didn't show up anymore and his very long time teachers just covered more and more. Most thought he was traveling a lot for appearances.  I think he had depression and burn out but that is pure speculation on my part. He had Nick names for everyone, our was "The Couple". He was great at his passion. He is American Grit and a hero in my book.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.
