Re: Two Issues with New Forum

For the most part I like the new forum (I liked the old one better) but I have two issues:

  • When I read the posts I go into view all categories.  If I respond to someone's post then the computer just clears the screen and just sits there.  I have to go back into view all categories again and try to figure out where I left off.
  • When there is trail of responses why do the oldest ones keep fading away?  I find that very annoying.  What's the point?

Oh, and one more thing.  Can you get us better smiley faces?  The ones we have currently are scary looking.  Who's brillant idea was that to pick them? Woman Very Happy

I'm not exactly sure if I'm interpreting this quite correctly, so this may not be your problem.  Are you saying when you post a reply you get an almost blank screen?  If that is what it is, this may be what's happening:

At the left, under "Quick Links", go to "Edit My Preferences".  Under "Preference Options" scroll down to "Show confirmation page for posts".  Make sure that is unchecked.  Click "Save".  Then, when you reply to a post, you should remain in the thread and have a red/pink box at the top of your screen that gives you the option to go directly to the post you have just posted.

If that's not your problem, I'm sorry.  Maybe in that case someone else can help you.  As for the smileys, I agree with you--they're terrible, you can't even tell what they're doing!  Cat Frustrated  See?

I agree, for the most part I like the Forum (used to the changes now), but the blank screen after a reply is very odd.  However, if you look to the left at the category listings, the one bolded is where you were.  Of course, we still have to hunt & peck if the posting itself is way deep into the list of postings.

I'd like to add -- when we reply to a specific posting we don't see that posting as we write.  Sometimes there are several different points I like to respond to, but forget some of them by the time I start typing.  Maybe that's just me and my bad memory skills.

One tip I learned from another poster (because I hadn't noticed it) is that just below the reply box when you get ready to type in your response, look just below to the left and you will see "View discussion in a popup".  If you click on that, it will open the entire discussion in a new window and you can go back and forth to refer to it as you type your response.  I've learned a lot from other posters during this "transition", and this helped me immensely.  Hope it helps you, too.

I wanted to repeat this helpful tip from @kittymomNC

It's been mentioned before in several threads, but there's a lot to learn with all the options on the new platform so it's easy for us to miss all the useful answers and suggestions.

Re: Two Issues with New Forum

Why isn't the gamers shown under community chat unti I sign in? And why do I have to sign in every time? Never had to before. Also all I get is no respose several times before the page changes; drives me nuts.

Re: Two Issues with New Forum

I, for one, would really appreciate an update from the tech team about clicking on our user name and having our posting history come up. All of the "type your name in a box, select default, and then click AGAIN", is just not a good user experience. This one critical, missing feature sinks this forum's redesign in my estimation.

Thanks I didn't realize that.  I'll try it and see if it works.
