I just used the autosave feature.  I was posting a reply to another thread when everything locked up.  I got the message in my browser "qvc.com is not reponding."  So when I recovered the webpage, miraculously, I was back in the thread where I was trying to post.  The reply box was empty.  Above the reply box it said "You have autosaved data from 2:34 pm."  and 2 choices: Load or Discard.  I clicked Load and what I had typed so far came back in my reply box.  I was able to finish typing and post.  Smiley Happy

Just thought I would share this as I remember somebody asking why the "Autosaved at xxxx" keeps coming up while you are typing.

Great post, @SHIRAZ!  I wanted to add:  the saved drafts are also available to us when we click on our "Profile" (click on your avatar or your name).  In the column on the left side of the page, they're listed as "Autosaved Drafts" and can be used or deleted.

I think that's my favorite feature on these forums!  I can't count the number of times on the old boards (and now this one) when I've accidentally hit a wrong key, or something gets locked up, and I lose my post.  And let's face it, I do get somewhat "wordy" at times!

This feature saved me on a post about 30 minutes ago... sometimes I forget it's there until I go back to start over and see the "Load" and "Discard" message. I used to write out a post in Word if I thought it was going to be a longer one, and then copy to the reply box just so I wouldn't lose it.  Now I don't have to.

Thanks.  I was also wondering if it would work to write out a long post in Word and copy it over.  It gets so annoying with the page jumping and the pink error boxes coming up all the time.  I found a partial copy of one of our popular threads from May that didn't get brought over and I was thinking of retyping what I found to get it started again, but it would take me a long time as I make a lot of mistakes typing and I hate the idea of being stuck in one of these boxes that long.  I might try it.

Sometimes even now with the autosave, if it's something that I really need to think about and get it right, I go to Word and do it there.  If it takes me a while to decide what and how I want to say something, I can go back to the forums in the meantime or do something else, and then go back to it, with no chance of losing it.  And I find sometimes it's easier to "tweak" it until I get it right, and then copy it over.

The autosave feature may be one of the culprits that causes page jumping depending on the browser you are using. When you get the blurb that your post has been autosaved, I notice that can happen.

Interesting.  I haven't noticed a correlation in IE, but your theory makes sense.

I notice the page jumping when the autosave fails and you get a message that your post could not be saved. It's quite annoying to have the page jump when you are typing away and you pause for thought in the middle of writing something.

All the annoying "jumping" is a function/result of the way some of the info is loaded onto the page.  The most obvious cause is the banner (or banners) at the top of the page advertising products or promotions.  The more banners, the more "jumping."  And I do think it varies from one device to another, one browser to another.

And if we use an iPad, there's a banner offering us the QVC app (that one can be closed by tapping the "x").  But it's true there are other culprits, like the Autosave notation, causing the problem.

We saw some of this happening before the forums were changed -- it started with the overall website redesign (which drastically changed the shopping side of the website but also impacted the look of the Community to some extent).  It should've been addressed at that time, but now it's worse and I'm puzzled to see it being allowed to continue.

Hi, dooBs!

It is all of that, as you've stated... PLUS as TY1 explained, the constant bobbing each time Autosave fails while typing.

Any post of any length I make here must be typed to Notepad on iPad and c/p to the Reply box.

Autosave is an excellent feature, if they can work this out.
