I'm not one to criticism others about their speaking pattern since I come from Western PA and we are known to mangle the English language quite often with our way of speaking.

However yesterday I was watching Rachel and Alberti during the Holiday Gourmet show  and while they were presenting one of the vitamin enriched drinks I heard Rachel say...

"I never not have this drink in my home".  Now for a television host who should have a good grip of the English language that was appalling.  I'm sure she just misspoke but she needs to think before she just rambles on about something.

It seems like she and Alberti are so intent on praising every single item that they don't even realize how silly they sound with all of their fake enthusiasm.

I don't expect them to say that a product is terrible but when everything is the best that they've ever tasted it makes it difficult to decide if that food item is worth buying.

@Mersha   Same here...I have a masters degree and spent a lot of time writing papers and still do presentations for work.  I am originally from Baltimore and like you from Pittsburgh, the accent and word pronunciation is all it's own.  Omg yes, some of the way I say things would burn some folks ears but I'm proud of my "Baltimorese" and hope I never lose it hon!  My folks always say "payment" for "pavement" and I love that...how boring would it be if we all were the same and oh so proper.

@bmorechick   We will be happy embracing our "unique." Smiley Happy

As my mom used to say "How bout dem Ravens and Steelers!" Love it

@bmorechick    Or as my brother would say...Stillers.  🤗

@Mombo1 The other thing, those of us from Pittsburgh tend to slur many words together.  I try not to do that now but it is just a part of where I am from.

"Did you eat" becomes "J'et yet"?

My city will always be "Pixxsburgh" and I will continue to "wirsh the dishes so I cago  dahntahn ta watch da Stillers."  Smiley Happy

@Mersha   🤗🤗🤗🤗.  Loved your post!
Pixxsburgh will always be my home.  I lived there for 40 years and always love going back to visit.  A teaching position brought me to the other side of the state...otherwise I would still be there. Thank goodness my brother lives there so I can get my fix.  I took my 3 little granddaughters there last year to the Science Center and other attractions.  They loved it.  The 9 year old even wrote a paper for school about her favorite place to visit.... Pittsburgh!    I almost cried.   Next summer we will go to Carnegie Museum to see the dinosaurs when the 2 youngest are a little older.
I would also like to go to Squirrel Hill for bagels.  My dad would hang out there while I was at Carnegie Mellon each Saturday for art classes.
So many great memories.  Nice to hear from a fellow Pittsburgher!

@Mombo1  That is wonderful your grandchildren enjoyed Pittsburgh.  You will have to take them to Kennywood. Smiley Happy

Speaking of Squirrel Hill, I remember my parents taking me to a wonderful restaurant for special occasions, Weinsteins.  That is probably long gone now.

What part of the city are you from?  I spent my youth in Braddock (made famous by a new PA Senator).  I have wonderful memories of that place.

I think when you leave that city, you will always carry it in your heart.

@Mersha   Yes Kennywood is on the list!   My family was originally from Donora and Beaver.  My Dad worked for US Steel and was transferred to Monroeville. I did not live in the city, but we spent a lot of time there.  We loved going into town frequently since the malls weren't developed yet...and during the holidays to shop at all the fabulous department stores.  My mom liked to go to the Tic Tok restaurant...probably spelled that wrong, but I think it was in Gimbels or Hornes. A great memory was going to see The Sound of Music when it first came out.  And the zoo...another place the grandkids want to see.  Even after my dad retired from US Steel...he decided to go back to college at Pitt in Oakland at the age of 60!    He loved the area.   You are right...the memories of Pittsburgh will last a lifetime.

I don't care. It's a 1st world problem.

There are hundreds of ways to pronounce most words....I've been to 47 states and each one was different.  I can go 2 hours north or 2 hours south and hear totally different accents and pronunciations.

My English teacher was so strict, if you wanted to live another day, you DID NOT mispronounce words.

Ever...

@jackiejenny When people mispronounce words they are perceived (rightly or wrongly) as being uneducated.
