I feel the moderators have enough on their plate. If people get snarky.... just move on. Do not give them time of day.

Yes, you can ignore people but what's happening is that people don't even want to post an idea because the thread gets hijacked by these bullies, so everyone figures what's the point and an opportunity is lost to provide QVC with our feedback and suggestions .....Discussions with differing opinions are great, but that's not what I'm talking about....its nothing but attacks on the poster!

@Spurt, if everyone understood that trolls and thread hijackers are just looking for attention and looking to derail a thread either because they are bitter souls (which is what I keep telling myself) or have a sad sense of amusement, and everyone just ignored them and moved on instead of engaging.... in other words, acting as if the trolls were not even there..... I guarantee you the trolls would lose interest in their immature games.
It's such a simple concept, though difficult for most people to follow-through on.
As far as so-called "personal attacks", I understand it's difficult for some people not to take what a stranger posts personally, but seriously, it's a wonderful practice to tell yourself that you are better than them and nothing they can possibly say can make you feel badly. I have allowed posters to say some really nasty things to me, and I just walk away and laugh to myself. Try it. :-)

You make some EXCELLENT points!!! I wish they'd bring the IGNORE button back because sometimes you have to bypass so much garbage from the "hijackers" to find the good conversation and discussion. Check out the QUALITY DOWN JARGON UP thread.....they turned a valid point into a discussion about trolls. I think we need that button back so we wouldnt even have to see their junk and just see the good stuff ![]()

The problem often is that people who don't understand what is going on, as well as seasoned ones of us who slip up sometimes, get tricked or goaded into a contentious discussion. Then the person who started it goes scott free.
I hope moderators will be more atuned to this as we go along. They do a very good job for the most part, but I think because hijacked threads are becoming more of a problem, that will be dealt with in time. They have a difficult job.
Trouble makers and nickname switchers can't help but eventually show their hands.

I don't understand because the moderators will erase something that they don't think is nice but yet they allow the same people to criticise and say what you said, "change the channel" etc. I think after 5 or 6 snarky responses, they should be audited and put on so many days of leave!
The moderators don't "erase" (lol) posts that do not violate the Community standards. There are posts people may not like but that isn't against community standards. Not everyone views each post in the same way - you may not appreciate it, someone else might agree totally. As another poster said, QVC wants to see ALL the opinions in a topic, not just one side.
Moderators have deleted offensive posts with comments like "argumentative". "baiting","inappropriate"
These people are merely attacking the PERSON and not contributing to thoughts on the IDEA/SUGGESTION/COMMENT!
And this IS what is says in the Community Guidelines---
Personal attacks are not allowed - Don't attack or insult another Community member. It's not helpful and it doesn't make for a friendly place. This includes calling other members names. Disagreement is no excuse for poor manners and we will not allow frustration to turn into a personal attack.
All of which validates what I said - that moderators delete at *their* discretion, and that just because one person thinks a post is personally insulting doesn't mean that it is. Just because *five* people think it's mean, nasty, rude, etc. doesn't mean that it is, and/or crosses a line. I have reported a post here and there I felt was deliberately posted to personally insult someone (not me) and it was not always deleted. No one else reported it, and/or the moderator did not think it delete-worthy. And life goes on. It's still just a shopping channel forum at the end of the day.
Inconsistency in Q's moderation is a whole new topic...
Not to belabor, but it has to do as much with people's PERCEPTION of inconsistency (and rudeness, and censorship, etc.) as it does with actual inconsistency - and therein lies the problem.
Yes, I have seen posts I felt didn't need to be removed that were, and I've also seen (more) posts that I felt should have been removed that weren't; I think we all have. But in the end it is just our individual perception, and we (all of us posting here) need to learn to deal with things not always going our way on these forums. It really is 'Ya win some, ya lose some' - and everyone does both.
Think about it - there are basically two groups of people on these forums - those who believe meanness abounds and we should all be muzzled, and those who believe we should be able to say whatever about whatever, period - and all the larger numbers who are in between - and yet BOTH groups are usually unhappy. That means that the moderators are doing their job well because neither group believes that they control the posting on the forum, BOTH feel hard done by from time to time. That's as even moderation as humans are going to be able to make it.

Agreed - and they have shown many of us their hands. But as has been said on several other threads, patterns of behavior do not seem to be taken into consideration by the moderators, or be acted upon, all that often. It has been postulated that either they do not/cannot "share" information between themselves (so don't see patterns), or that for whatever reason TPTB have not given the moderators the authority to ban posters except under a very narrow window of specifics. Whichever it might be, the trolls and multi-nickers use it to prime advantage, sadly.
And while I totally agree that an ignored troll is a defeated troll, the clueless are always going to respond, and then someone will respond to *them*, and someone will say it's a troll and someone else will call that person a meanie for saying it, and .... You know it happens, every time. The best that can be hoped for is for the old-timers to stay away from these threads and hope the newbies and/or the tender-hearted will "get it" eventually.

And sometimes people get so tired of seeing the same people hijack an intelligent discussion and they get so frustrated and there is a straw that breaks the camels back and they have to lash out because they can't take it anymore....and even though you know that's what these attackers want you sometimes get the point where you've had enough! Since it's the same people that's why I think QVC intervention is needed

Nope. As an example there are two political parties. Not everyone who identifies with either party is to the far reaches of idealogy for their party. They may be many places along the party line, including near the center - but they still idealogically identify with one party or the other when the chips are down. Their gut feelings are one or the other.
And no, I will not be drawn into any comments designed to "turn" this thread. The political analogy stops here - at least, with me.
