With most CCs f you pay off your balance every month you won't be charged interest, QVC would have the details specifically for their card.

Talbots CC has special discounts for certain sales.  However their interest is about the same as QVC's.  The manager suggests to customers when using their Talbot's card at the point of sale when buying the item with the special CC promotion to then use your debit card and pay off the balance.  This can all be done at the Talbot's terminal at check-out.

No interest charged.

As for checks they are dangerous, it's assumed online is less safe, checks can be washed, lost, etc.

I don't understand why anyone would have to do this.  As long as my CC bill is paid in full every month, there is no interest charged.  Is there something special about the Talbot's card that starts accruing interest the moment you make a purchase? If that's the case, why would anyone use such a card??

No one has to do this, it's an option that the manager presents to the customers as a way to not have to worry about a bill and possible accrued interest.

As for why would anyone use such a card?  Talbots offers special discount days for card members only.  It would defeat the purpose if the card wasn't paid in full and that high interest rate was assessed.

When in the store I see lots of elderly customers in their 80's & 90's and the manager is helping them wherever she can, a very thoughtful and conscientous person.

Re: High Interest Rate!!!

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear.  I certainly understand why folks use a store credit card in order to benefit from the special deals.

I was trying to figure out why it was necessary to immediately pay it off in the store and asked if this card accrued interest beginning at the time of purchase. But if that were the case, I wondered why anyone would want a card that accrued interest immediately

I still don't get the part about using the CC and then paying it off immediately with a debit card before you leave the store.  The credit card bill comes once a month, so why wouldn't you just pay it off then?  If someone is unable to keep track of their monthly bills and pay them in a timely manner, then that's an entirely different problem.

I pay all the bills on line , credit, utilities Doctors etc . My big fear is if something happened to me , my husband wouldn't have a clue how to take it over or shut down the accounts . Please don't say teach him , it ain't gonna happen !  They all have passwords and codes , are connected to my cellphone , and utilities and insurance are automatically withdrawn from my checking account . Of course if l am not around there will be no more deposits put into it . His name is not on my check account , l had it before marriage and too much trouble to change it . He has 2 credit cards and a checking account in his name as well . l pay his bills on line too . l use about 6 different credit cards. So a big mess if l am not here . Any ideas ?

@judianne - A friend in a similar situation recently had his father do this for his mother in case of emergency: Create an "instruction manual" with all the important details, share its general contents at least briefly with one or two key people, and then lock it up somewhere safe (but somewhere you can still modify it if needed). If the unthinkable happens, your loved ones will know where to go to get started on all the next steps when they're ready.
