http://www.agrilabs.com/t-BHWD10-Abortions-in-Your-Dairy-Operation.aspx

Apparently, aborted calves is a common occurrence. I just Googled 'aborted calves' and found many links addressing the problem. Late term abortions could still be used for veal, leather & hair calf. The cows would be milk producing....and I would think the farmers would have insurance on the aborted livestock. Win-win-win.

Simple Ways to Keep Abortions from Eroding Your Profits

Abortions cost U. S. dairy farmers an estimated $27 million per year. But the causes are many—and often difficult to pinpoint. Nevertheless, there are steps producers can take to minimize the incidence of abortions in their operations.

While they are never desirable, bovine abortions are an accepted part of life on a dairy farm. The expulsion of a fetus, which can occur any time during gestation, is reported at a rate of up to 10 percent across the dairy industry.

While that number may not seem high, experts believe there are far more of these failures that go unnoticed. In fact, studies show that only 30 percent of abortions are currently being diagnosed. And, with an average cost of $600-1000 per case, the cost of these mishaps in lost production is significant.

So the natural response is, what’s causing these mishaps, and what can be done about it? The problem is, even when abortions are detected their causes are difficult to determine, these same experts agree.

The OP is completely wrong, but, it's been pointed out a number of times, so, why belabor it?

I admire Vegetarians/Vegans, who feel that they have made a choice for their health/personal beliefs, etc.

Unfortunately, my personal experience, has been to encounter a bit of hypocrisy.

As an example, I have a neighbor, basically a nice lady, who has been, by her definition, a committed Vegan for a decade. I don't monitor her diet, but, I assume she's faithful and she does not wear or use leather goods. OK.

However, very recently, this animal loving lady, trapped in her yard and took to a local kill shelter, a neighbors Cat, that she said was always in her yard, garden, etc, being a nuisance. Her next door neighbor saw her take the Cat in her car, told the owner, who was able to go get her Cat back.

Should the owner be responsible for her Cat; of course. But WHOA, what happened to this woman's passionate animal right activism, when an Animal irritated her by getting in her Petunia's?? It's immoral to eat animal flesh, but, it's OK, to take someone's pet to a shelter, knowing it could be destroyed, if it's an annoyance to you?? Pretty strange animal supporter, Me thinks!

Ok, evil neighbor and a down right hypocrite, I completely agree. So much for her so called love on animals.

I eat meat. I have no objection to "haircalf" or "ponyhair" on moral grounds. But as FASHION? As a trendy, upscale, new and different item? I think of this as something which can be bought in the just-across-the-border tourist areas in Mexico, which has been sold to tourists for 50-60+ years at least and it has always been considered tacky. It is fashion of a sort, I suppose, but not the sort I would ever want to wear. Just because "the industry" (says QVC and HSN) has suddenly decreed that it's fashionable doesn't mean it is.

Yep. Regardless of anything else related or not related to it, I just don't like the look.

I'm not a fan myself, but, the shopping channels are very Johnny Come Lately to the game.

Companies like Hermes have used it for years.

I love animals, I even like cats but they can be huge pests and cause a lot of damage. My community has a leash law that includes both dogs and cats. They can't be outside their yard except on a leash. I wouldn't hesitate to trap a cat and take it to animal control. If the owner has to pay a fine, I bet they'll think twice before letting the animal roam again. Anyone who loves his cat will not let it outside where it is at great risk for harm.

I adore this look and always have. Misinformation or opinions wouldn't stop me from buying it, though I respect others' decision not to buy if they think it's wrong for some reason. I think it's basically wearing a shirt inside out.

Why does this topic seem to come up at least every few months?{#emotions_dlg.w00t} Good grief, there is so much incorrect information about this. It is not what the OP stated. Please get the facts straight!

I think your statement, "I even like Cat's," and your admission that you would be willing to trap someone's Cat and take it to Animal Control, says everything about how much you like Cat's!

As I stated, the shelter this Cat was taken to, is a kill shelter. When the Cat population is high, as it can be, Cat's that can't immediately be identified and claimed by an owner, can be destroyed with hours.

I can't imagine any animal lover feeling anything but terrible guilt for being responsible for the death of an innocent animal, who was just being a Cat. Should the owner contain their pet, Yes. But, I'm very very glad not to know you, much less have you as a neighbor!

And you're right, the owner probably would think twice and then some, about letting their Cat outside, but, much too late, if it was Dead!

Sorry Suhse but I don't feel the least bit guilty when someone else breaks the law. Our shelter keeps animals a minimum of 7 days, more with a microchip. I'm equally glad to not have you as a neighbor, especially if you have roaming pets and are a law-breaker.
