I want all of you to know that the haircalf definition is: skin and hair from very young or aborted calves. I am not an extreme advocate of no animal products but this to me is beyond the pale. You might think about that new haircalf handbag you buy.

No, that is NOT what the haircalf is. It is simply the reverse side of the hide, usually of a cow.

Whether one likes the look or feel of haircalf aside, it is merely another form of leather.

I will not buy hair calf and I don't eat any meat. I also do not buy make-up brushes that are animal fur such as sable or pony hair. I will not be a contributor to the pain and suffering of an animal. To each their own though. I also try to avoid "made in China", but that discussion is for another day {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

thanks suzyq......but people will probably ignore this. it has come up so many times and people STILL love to argue about it.

i own several haircalf handbags.....sometimes called ponyhair also......and i love them.

Oh, I know they'll continue to define it the way they choose to, despite it being totally incorrect. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I don't have any haircalf products. I'm pretty neutral on the aesthetics. It depends upon the individual bag or whatever the item is. But that's irrelevant to the definition. How anyone came up with the OP's misinformation is beyond me.

It's on the internet, so it must be true. No one lies on the internet!

I don't like the feel of haircalf and it's freaked me out ever since I was a kid. But as long as I'm wearing leather shoes and eating a beef taco, I'm not going to complain about products made out of cow hide.

You are wrong, wrong, wrong, OP. Believe me we've had more than one heated discussions on this subject. You are Johnny-come-lately. Do you really think they'd take the finest, softest, most expensive calfskin and use it on moderately priced handbags? No! The product called hair calf is nothing more than cowhide with the hair left on. Furthermore, it would not be cost effective to abort calves. They're worth more "on the hoof".

No reason for me to think about that new hair calf bag I buy, because I won't be buying one... Aside from the obvious ethical issue, for those of us who feel it is potentially an issue, I simply don't like the look. At all...
