My son's girlfriend is gluten free. Any ideas of how to manage gluten free eating with a "mixed" household. Also does anyone have a favorite gluten free product or recipe they recommend? I would love any advice on this matter to honor her Celiac situation and to have the holidays go smoothly.

I am liking any Glutino products... crackers/pretzels -- I like all of their products. These seem relatively easy to find.
To add; the products below come from Whole Foods, but may be in regular grocery stores
When out of state I got caught needing GF... Amazon is a great reference for these: Amy's Canned soups;
also, Amy's Frozen meals come in a variety and are very tasty.
Will get the names of the bread and ice creams ...
Udi's -- hamburger buns
Canyon Bakehouse Breads
Nada Moo ice cream

While I think there are a lot of people into gluten-free eating because it has become a fad (and very few people actually undestand what gluten is),, I do recognize there is a tiny percentage of people who must give it up.
Based on a friend who is gluten-free, along with reviews of books on the subject, I highly recommend America's Test Kitchen's gluten-free cookbook.
There are quite a few products on the market if you wish to buy prepackaged. If I am not mistaken, I believe Trader Joe's has a list of products that are gluten-free available in the stores. If you are near one of their locations, I am sure one of their crew members could be of assistance.

Gluten-free recipes are appearing everywhere these days, so you just have to look for them. I've seen an entire category of gluten-free recipes listed on the McCormick Spice Company website.
The Washington Post newspaper's website has a large food and recipe section containing at least some gluten-free dishes Just about every national magazine containing recipes includes this category. The Crock-Pot website might have some.
Try sites such as those for Betty Crocker and Pillsbury. I'm sure food manufacturers such as Tyson Foods, Hillshire Farms, Campbell's, Land o' Lakes, and hundreds of other brand names also post gluten-free recipes. Good luck in your search!

I would ask her for her favorite recipes for the holidays and ideas. If you think she's going to be with the family for a while, maybe ask her to bring some recipes that you could make together.

if she has celiac disease she will want to be really careful on how the food is prepared.
If she is eating gluten free that is another thing, perhaps ask

Thank you so much for the great suggestions. The web site mentioned is so helpful, too. She has only recently discovered she has Celiac disease. I guess we will figure it out together. She is open to helping to prepare the food . She has also offered to bring a dish. She will be here for a few days. You have all been so helpful. Thank you and may your holidays be wonderful.

I purchase Cup4Cup GF flour mix and use it exclusively when making meals for guests that include those who cannot tolerate gluten. That way, I have no cross contamination with gluten-containing ingredients. I've found that C4C works well in all of my standard recipes except yeast rolls and as a thickener for gravy.
I carefully read all labels because gluten occurs in unexpected things like soy sauce and some items that include malt.
I agree that Glutino crackers are pretty tasty even to non-GF eaters.
