@Barbarainnc If you have room for one more kitchen gadget, invest about $20 and buy the OXO vegetable chopper. It does a great job on onions, carrots, celery, potatoes. Anything you need chopped/diced. Got mine at BB&B using their coupon.

best chopper for me is a Vidalia Onion chopper, from BBB. $20.00ish.

This is probably not the answer most want to hear, but a good chef's knife beats all in my book. Knife skill is worth learning. Once learned, you can work faster than the time it takes to set up and clean other tools.

I always chop onions with a knife. I don't care for the consistency of onions done in a food processor.
