I dunno. Three months seems wrong. I saw a similar recipe that said three weeks. That I can believe although I personally wouldn't go past 2 weeks.

I have been making these for years and they do last for 3 months in the fridge. Once opened I keep them about 3 to 4 weeks in the fridge. I thought that pickling something was a preservative but not sure. Pickles (jarred) bought in a grocery store are dated longer then 3 months. I like to make a batch in Sept. and then have them around Christmas time. Makes for a nice treat.
