My mother used to make something like this but with mixed vegetables (frozen).

I've had a recipe similar for 35 years. The only thing is no vinegar or parsley in mine. It's delicious. The key is frozen or fresh peas. Don't use canned peas or you will end up with mush. This is my favorite summer salad to take to potlucks.

I rarely use canned vegetables. I agree with you that canned peas = mush!

Thanks everyone for all the great ideas for other add-ins! I am always experimenting with recipes to suit my taste, and I love to hear how others have done the same.

I like peas but do not use them as a side dish much anymore ... and have never used peas in a salad either ... which gives me a chance to try this recipe ...

I have had English Pea Salad, which I love, and only use Le Seur Sweet Peas!

Yes, I've had this many times. It was really popular in the late 60's. There are many slight variations to this recipe. This is great with summer time BBQs.

This was my Mom's stand by dish to make for a potluck or buffet dinner. Since moving to CA no one here has ever heard of it. I made it, along with homemade cloverleaf rolls for Thanksgiving when I was invited to my friends in-laws. The Dad said, OMG you are not originally from CA are you? I haven't had this since I left he Midwest!
