I buy white cake mix and make as directed, add to it freshly zested orange rind, I squeeze some of the juice from the orange into the batter, I also sometimes add coconut
milk in place of the water, and add a couple of drops of red and yellow food color
to give it the orange color. Deeeelish ! I make a cream cheese frosting with the
zest of the rind, and some of the orange juice as well. Hope this helps.
@cookinfreak wrote:Does anyone know if the orange box cake mixes are still available? My dad likes it with chocolate frosting. I went to 2 different grocery stores and neither one had them. I was so disappointed. My dad is in memory care and they have cookies and ice cream for desserts so he enjoys getting something different now and then.
OR
do you have an easy recipe for an orange flavored cake?
TIA

I bought the Duncan Hines orange cake mix to make a cake for a friend's birthday but I added some crushed pineapple to the batter and it turned out so good. I sprinkled some powder sugar on top. I also made some cupcakes with leftover batter and we ate them right up. I am definitely going to make that again. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
