Does anyone know if the orange box cake mixes are still available? My dad likes it with chocolate frosting. I went to 2 different grocery stores and neither one had them. I was so disappointed. My dad is in memory care and they have cookies and ice cream for desserts so he enjoys getting something different now and then.

OR

do you have an easy recipe for an orange flavored cake?

TIA

Growing up my Aunt made the most amazing orange cake from scratch.  Back then they didn't have mixes.  She used real oranges and jest from the orange for the icing.

I invested in real flavoring.  It wasn't the fake stuff you get at the store, I went into a store that sells supplies for baking, etc and bought those.  They come in tiny bottles and are not cheap (you only use a tiny drop at a time).

You can easily make one by adding orange juice and some grated orange zest to a box yellow cake mix.

I used to make a Cherry cake for my youngest and an orange cake for the oldest.  I would buy those oranges in cans  (small)  and put on top and marachino cherries on the cherry.

Hi @cookinfreak,

This was a little while ago, but I did see some different flavored cake mixes at Big Lots.

If you have a Big Lots in your area, you could probably see what they have there.

I can't guarantee what they'll have there, but it may be worth a try checking there if you have a store in your area.

Use lemon cake mix, and add orange drink mix to the liquid......Walmart's "early rise" works..............

If you  make a cake from scratch I also recomend getting the real orange oil in the little bottle.  I replace half the called for vanilla with orange oil.  The cake comes out tasting like an orange creamsicle.  I don't know if adding a few drops of orange oil to a yellow cake mix would make the same falvour, but you might try that.
