My boss lady always made the best red velvet cake for Christmas. I asked her how she made it. She said she uses 2 bottles of food coloring. It was VERY red!

My recipe calls for 2 bottles of food coloring also; my family loves this cake, and I don't sweat the amount of food coloring. I want a RED cake.

decades ago - yes decades....
on the Today show - the commentators were sharing their favorite holiday cake
Al Roker mentioned Red Velvet Cake from the south
I never heard of it.... so when I traveled to Chattanooga for business -
I asked my contact when I visited - I want a piece of Red Velvet Cake
she mentioned it was a holiday cake and we visited 2 bakeries - none to be found
fast forward - a box arrived at my work - I opened it and it looked like dog food
it was a red velvet cake mailed to me but it was not packaged properly
literally a cake mailed in a bakery box - decades ago, people
my coworkers gathered around - we found spoons and plates and devoured the thing - it was a good memory, not pretty but tasty
but now - you can walk to any bakery and get red velvet and yes
i still like it - made one years ago - added lot less food coloring and it looked brown - still tasted good but it wasn't as festive
