Rye bread.  This recipe makes 3 loaves, so I'll keep one and give two away.

Rye Bread

1 package dry yeast

1/2 cup warm water

2 cups rye flour

3/4 cup dark molasses (I used light because that's all I had)

1/3 cup shortening (I used butter)

2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. sugar

2 cups boiling water

6-6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1.  Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2.  In large bowl, combine rye flour, salt, sugar, molasses, shortening, and boiling water.  Mix well.

3.  Cool to lukewarm.  Add yeast mixture.  Gradually add all-purpose flour to make a soft dough.

4.  Turn onto floured surface and knead well.  (Or 2 to 2 1/2 minutes using mixer and dough hook.)

5.  Place dough in greased bowl and turn once to grease surface.  Cover and let rise until double (about 1 1/2-2 hours.  Punch down in bowl.  Cover and let rise again until double (about 30 minutes).  Turn onto floured surface.  Shape into 3 loaves and place in well greased bread pans.  Let rise again (about 30 minutes).  Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.  Remove from pans.  Cover loaves with dish towel and cool on racks.

@wismiss

That sounds wonderful.

I would love a liverwurst sandwich, sour dill pickles.

mustard, and a little shredded lettuce.

An all-time favorite on rye.
