@Noel7 and @BeccaLou Thanks for answering my question about the scum. The corned beef I bought had pretty much liquid surrounding it, and I added that to the pot thinking it would help with the flavor. But, I'm thinking it helped create more scum.

@PA Mom-mom

I used to add that, too. I read we were supposed to.  I wouldn’t do it again.

I am thinking you probably had to much fat on your meat, maybe next time you should cut some of it off before cooking the beef. My corned beef didn't have very much fat, but when I buy one if it has an excess amount of fat I always cut alot off. So see if that helps next time. Smiley Wink

@Noel7 I was just wondering about doing that! If you wouldn't mind sharing - how long did you cook it, and also how much water did you use... did it cover the corned beef totaly?

Hi @toja

We made it based on Bob Warden's directions.  2 to 3 pounds at 70 minutes, 4 to 5 pounds at 85 minutes.  Ours was 3 1/2 pounds and we cooked it 70 minutes.

We put in on the rack in the Instapot and put in enough water to cover it just a bit and used the natural release for 15 minutes and opened it afterward.

Thank you @Noel7! Can't wait to make it tomorrow Smiley Happy Sounds so easy and quick...

Hi again @toja

Just to be sure you know, we did the veg separately.  They didn't need to be cooked that long, so we used a Dutch oven for the veg.  I boil then simmer, add carrots and small red potatoes for 40 minutes, and cabbage wedges for the last ten minutes.  Drain and serve.

@Noel7 Just wanted to thank you again! The beef was wonderful... I had a larger piece, so I pressure cooked it for 90 minutes, and it turned out beautifully Smiley Happy

I always cook veggies seperately, we prefer to sauté the cabbage with onions, apples and garlic... I know it's not traditional, but since we are not Irish I think I'll be forgiven ;-)

Pssssst @sidsmom

It’s often referred to as Instapot.  Google “Instapot”. Sometimes “Insta Pot” and catch up Smiley Wink

@Noel7

Bless Your Heart.

Back story

Years ago, when the Plant Based community embraced the Instant Pot, a Joel Fuhrman (Eat to Live) FB group formed using the incorrect ‘Instapot’ spelling...and the error just repeated itself since the FB Group was so popular.

Blame the crazy plant people for causing the error..! Chef AJ, a foundational part of the Instant Pot popularity through her connection w/ Dr. McDougall & the plant-Based movement of today, and the World correctly says ‘Instant Pot’, as well as the actual machine & the box it came in. That’s always the first sign.

There’s really no ‘catch up’ to be made. The race began...the World turned right; you & a couple of bloggers turned left. We’re finished, sitting at home & the poor lefties are still rambling around, all lost, thinking they’re near the finish line. Not even close. I’m offering the ‘Instant Pot’ SAG wagon to pick y’all up to declare a DNF.   Instant Pot for the Win!

I’m glad you enjoy for Instant Pot cooking!

Hi @toja

You are so welcome!  Smiley Happy  I am really glad you liked using the pressure cooker.

I cook the veggies separately, also, just boiled though: carrots, cabbage and small red potatoes.  Officially like the original New England boiled dinner that fed so many of our ancestors.

However... I recently came across a recipe for cabbage steaks, I really want to try those.  There are a lot of recipes out there for different flavors, here are the basic instructions:
