I've been making soup the past few weeks and had left over pizza sauce from Trader Joe's and Signature Cafe.
Today I made soup again and saw the left over pizza sauce in the fridge. I added 2-3 tablespoons of pizza sauce and it taste fabulous-has all the seasonings I love.
Anyone else do the same?
It's just my sister and myself and I like to make small amounts of soup, enough for 2-3 servings. This morning I used 6 cups of water, poultry seasoning, pepper, thyme and ground basil, carrots, left over S&W Italian and cut up tomatoes.
I don't add salt, oh, 1 scant teaspoon Better than Bouillon roasted chicken.
Food as everything else is so expensive I like to use what I have on hand.
I love TJ's and Signature Cafe's pizza sauce and their pre-made pizza dough, I freeze both the sauce and pizza dough.
I think both TJ's and Signature are made at the same production plant-both taste the same.

What a fabulous idea! I will try it. Thank you for sharing.

Yup, I've been doing that for years with whatever jarred sauce I have. A couple of teaspoons and Voila!
I use it wherever the recipe calls for tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes...well you get it.
It gives flavor and adds a bit of color. I used it today in a ham and bean soup that is simmering on the stove as I write.

@Alsace Gal I go to Trader Joe's every week. I have used the sauce as well on pizza only. My sister makes soup from scratch and asked her about this. Turns out she does use it as well in her soup.

Your soup is definitely something I know I would enjoy. It's never occurred to me to add poultry seasoning to my soup.... great addition! For the life of me, I can't figure out what's "left over S&W Italian."😵 Please put my brain to rest!🙃

When I use S&W Italian cut up tomatoes I often don't use the whole can, hence left over tomatoes.

I tended bar part time a very long time ago and while there noticed that our kitchen was very popular. The owner's wife was a wonderful cook and one day when making Stuffed Green Peppers she ran out of tomatoes. She used a couple of cans of pizza sauce and the peppers were the best I had ever tasted. So ever since pizza sauce goes into my stuffed peppers sauce. . . it goes into many other things as well! LOL!!

My mom was a very creative cook and so are my husband and I. We use everything. Tomato products are pretty interchangeable, and whatever is leftover here gets used.
I like to add a little acid of many kinds to soup--a lot of tomato, or even a squeeze of lemon or lime, or a little vinegar. It gives soup a little sparkle without a lot more salt.

Thanks for the explanation. Not being famillar with 'S&W' products, I was interpreting "left over S&W Italian" as one ingredient (thinking Italian had to be an adjective and the accompanying noun had to have been omitted due to a typo) and "cut up tomatoes" as another, different ingredient.
My over-worked brain thanks you.🌝
