Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

@Honeybit

What's not to love about a recipe that factors in a treat for the cook!

It sounds great!

Regarding the strawberry preserves in the cheese ball... that's kind of a leap of faith to add that. I'm having trouble imagining what it would taste like.  I suppose it would be good even without the preserves, but I'm intrigued.

Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

@house_cat   Just to make sure, you do realize that you don't ADD or MIX the strawberry preserves INTO the cheese ball -- you would make a ring (instead of a ball) and then put the preserves into the center of the ring and eat them along with the cheese on top of your cracker.

I thought it was strange the first time I ever heard of it, but it really is a good combination of flavors.

Just as a side note, one version of the cheese-with-preserves recipe has been around for many years in Georgia.  It is credited to Rosalyn Carter back when Jimmy Carter was Governor of Georgia.

@Honeybit

The directions you posted were clear, I had never heard of eating the preserves along with the cheese, but it makes sense.  We eat cheesecake with fruit on it, so why not?  As always happens when I ask for recipes here - I wind up with so many good ones that I can't decide.  I might have to do an eeny-meeny-miney-mo for this one!

Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

Here's a good one - not sure if it was already posted. A friend of mine makes it:

Bacon Ranch Cheese Ball

Ingredients
(2) 8 oz packages of cream cheese, room temp
1/2 cup shredded cheddar
1 cup bacon crumbles, divided
1 package of Hidden Valley Ranch dip mix

Instructions

Place cream cheese in a medium sized mixing bowl.

Mix with mixer until both blocks are combined.

Add in ranch dip mix and mix well.

Blend in shredded cheddar and 1/2 cup of the bacon crumbles.

Once mixed, using your hands, form into a ball.

Roll the ball into the remaining 1/2 cup of bacon crumbles.

Refrigerate 1 hour before serving.

Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

The following one is from a poster here - not sure if they are still active, or not - if so, I apologize! She gave it rave reviews, which I am posting with the recipe....

Thank you Baxjaxmom!!

I didn't get this on the Recipe Exchange Game, but when I saw "Olives" I suddenly remembered this very simple and scrumptious appetizer / snack recipe that I had completely forgotten about! A HUGE THANK YOU to whomever it was who listed Olives as a "next ingredient". It reminded me of this favorite of mine. How I could have forgotten about it? (I'm OLD, that's why). Oh well, here it is. If you like olives, you will love this. My boys ued to beg me to make these and they would eat them like potato chips! I always double or triple my recipe, especially if I'm having guests. Another great thing about this is that they can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake them. That way they are hot when served. However, we like them just as well at room temperature!

OLIVE CHEESE BALLS

1 Cup Grated Cheddar Cheese
2 T Softened Butter
1/2 Cup Flour
1/8 t Cayenne Pepper
24 Pimento Stuffed Olives

Drain olives well and pat dry. Combine cheese and butter in a bowl. Add flour and cayenne and blend until a soft dough is formed. Pinch off a small amount and wrap around an olive and roll to form a uniform ball, ensuring you cover the olive completely. Place on cookie sheet and bake @ 350 degrees for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown

Enjoy!

Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

Here is a great hint that RiverRat posted on Recipe Swap in 2009....

Thought it might be s good time to post with the Cheese Balls...

I'm enjoying all the dip and cheese ball recipes. I thought I would throw in a tip I use a lot for cheese-balls:

Line a bowl of your choice of shape with plastic wrap.

Pack cheese-ball mixture into bowl, smoothing top to level.

Fold excess wrap over top to cover, then chill.

Makes cheese-ball a nice shape and saves all that trying to mold with your hands, plus it will sit flat on plate.

Coat with nuts etc. after unmolding and removing plastic wrap. Hope you find this helpful. RR

Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

This isn't the TYPICAL cheese ball, but it's really a great dessert Cheese Ball! Kids love it, as well as adults! Mmmm : )

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

½ cup butter (no substitutions), softened

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

¾ cup confectioners’ sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

¾ cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

¾ cup finely chopped pecans

Graham Crackers (regular or chocolate)

In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter and vanilla until fluffy.

Gradually add sugars; beat just until combined.

Stir in chocolate chips.  Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Place cream cheese mixture on a large piece of plastic wrap;

shape into a ball.

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Just before serving, roll cheese ball in pecans.

Serve with graham crackers. (I like to use the STICKS)

Yield:  1 cheese ball (about 2 cups).

Re: Cheese ball and deviled egg recipes, please.

@DiamondGirly,

The recipe you posted has been one of my go-to's for many years.  I've made these cheese bites for two wedding receptions, two showers, and my daughter makes them every Christmas for her classroom party.

I HATE olives, so I make them with ham or pepperoni in the center.
