This seems to me -- and I admit to not trying the recipe -- that this is a brownie (blondie?).  Also, I would not bake the batter in a jelly roll pan for 30-40 mins.  If that shallow a pan is used, I would start checking at around 20 minutes.  IMHO, a 9x13 pan is the right size to use at this temperature and timing.

Does not look at all like the Batman I grew up with back in the late '60's.  I prefer the newer model.

I've googled everything I can think of, "brown sugar cake, sheet cake, brown sugar+nuts, and I can't fing anything like it.

I wonder if it was a mistake and was so good someone wrote it down.  It is sweet, but not gaggingly sweet and has a great flavor.  I think the 1/2 Cup white sugar is to make the batter smoother.  Not sure brown sugar would do that.

The powdered sugar is really for show, but it doesn't need icing!

Hi Zhills!

You got me thinking,....and then MrsG nailed it; this is a blonde brownie recipe!

I found the same list of ingredients, w/ the exception of self rising flour - instead, all purpose flour was used along w/ baking powder & baking soda. Unfortunately, the link to the older site w/ that recipe won't open, as TasteBook has moved.

Just google "Batman Brownies Recipe from Shelli - TasteBook" and you'll see what I mean.

Clicking on this link does zip.

Batman Brownies Recipe from Shelli - TasteBook

www.tastebook.com/recipes/2130152-Batman-Brownies

Ingredients.

2 c. flour;

3 tsp. baking powder;

1/2 tsp. salt;

1/4 tsp. baking soda*;

1 whole box light brown sugar;

2 sticks melted butter;

1/2 c. white sugar;

4 eggs ...

On a separate brownie recipe, Zhills, I saw where powdered sugar was dusted over the top, and a batman stencil was used. That probably explains the powdered sugar on top.

Voila! Batman Brownies! Not cake.  Smiley Happy

I think that may be it.  Woman Happy

@sabatini   Hello!  It feels like a loong time since I've seen your name around these boards.  BTW, that was some good detective work on the Batman Brownies.
