@cjm61   Sorry, I am not a Christmas person.  I actually hate what Christmas has become.

Last December, I had surgery in December which was great.  I could avoid most of the stress by not doing much. I don't like decorating or shopping.

I buy gifts for my friend who is in a nursing home and give my adult children and grands money.  When I bought them gifts, they either donated or returned almost everything. 

They all have everything and whatever you get them is a duplicate.  They prefer cash.

My DH and I don't exchange and we haven't for years.  

The only part I like is the family get togethers.  I always cook and bake and make it a festive occasion...the gifting and decorating part is not my thing.

I think my grief comes from being poor and being expected to show up with gifts.  It was stressful to not have money to buy gifts when everyone else showed up with gifts for us.

We would have to borrow money and it was difficult to pay it back.  We never went overboard, but still felt obligated.

I know many young people feel stress over holiday gifting. They buy gifts for their friends, family and children and have no money to pay bills or their cc bills.

My cash gifts, which are robust, helps everyone get through the holidays with less stress over finances and for those who have everything, they don't have to do returns or donate.

I love CIJ. I can't wait. I "window shop" the decor, get ideas for gifts, and I pre-order my holiday Germack. Yum.

People will complain, and make negative comments, but that is on them. I HATE beauty; to each their own.

I just got the rest of my Easter bunny decor boxes moved upstairs over the weekend. Thanks for the CIJ warning. I have no interest in anything Christmas until after Labor Day...then I will enjoy the upcoming seasons. I am still trying to give away more of my Christmas stuff to my kids....who run when I start mentioning it....no more Christmas decor for me. Less is more at this stage of my life.

@cjm61;Carmie;   I'm with you.  I haven't celebrated Christmas for years.  I find the stress it creates for most people really crazy.   I decided years ago I no longer wanted to go through that.

@cjm61  that's great you enjoy it so much.  I know a lot of people who do.  I'm just not one of them.   It has nothing to do with gift giving.   I love giving people gifts but not necessarily for special holidays, except maybe birthdays.

I think CIJ in June is a money grab.We have lost the true meaning of Christmas. It is not about buying, buying and more buying.  Why must we rush everything. Can't we just enjoy the time we spend with our families without all this hoopla about rushing to buy something. I wish this concept would just disappear.
