I agree. I am not sure why a person would critique someone for critiquing, lol. Trolls, maybe? It's true that many people don't realize they do it.I have just about stoppe d using them since joining Toastmasers. Once in a while I catch myself and I'm horrified, lol.

Agreed! Silence is better. It makes me listen. Fillers distract me so that I stop listening, Smiley Happy

Several yrs ago, I posted NUMEROUS times, the hosts should ALL watch their shows. Some would be embarrassed if they did. They could ALL learn something. I have never understood why TPTB allow things to KEEP happening on QVC....unprofessional hosts, horrible attire, crazy vocabulary.....

Sure, 'Um' bothers me some days more than others, but I'd change the channel waaaay before I'd count the 'Um's' for an hour.

But enough talk of 'fillers'. Perhaps you'll consult your Toastmaster's book and tell me @AussieLuvr, what would you call that pointless "Ok" at the start of your post?

Ok, after a post about using filler words (which I can't find right now) I decided to play Toastmasters "um counter" during a one hour IT presentation with Jamie. In 23 minutes, she used "um" as a filler word 73 times. I stopped counting because it was driving me nuts and I had to get to sleep.
