I wish they would do that with all my packages.  I have never had anthing stolen and we live in a very safe neighborhood, but I would like to just pick them up once a week somewhere.  That would be great.  I don't like stuff sitting on my porch NOT because of theft, but because people know we are not home if we stay out late, have to be somewhere out of town on short noctice and the neighbors are all gone too, etc. etc.

@Sooner We have a large covered front porch with a bench on it. There is room between the bench & house to leave packages in the corner that cannot be seen from the street. That's where UPS & USPS puts my packages.

I had to tell the new mailman to put them there because he would put them right in front of my glass storm door where I could hardly open the door. Several times I had to go thru the garage out front to get the heavy packages. Could not believe I had to ask the mailman not to place them in front of my door.

Even though you cannot see them from the street it only takes a thief to see them being delivered to steal them.

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

@stellabystarlight ...

I told my UPS guy that I paid to have my packages delivered to my door ... not some business in a shady neighborhhood ... that if UPS couldn't re-deliver them to my home then send them back to wherever they came from.

Never happened again ...

Yes, from Amazon. I was informed that it was the discretion of specific vendor that determined if package could be left, not up to ups, or driver.

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

I live in an extremely safe neighborhood, Bronxville, NY, but that is the reason there are so many thefts - many wealthy people live in my neighborhood.  I just went to the UPS site and apparently these customer access sites are increasing.  I guess that the stores that participate get a fee and also great publicity as they probably try to talk you into buying something from them.  I know when I walk into the Boost Moble store this afternoon, they are going to try to sell me a cell phone plan!

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

[ Edited ]

I surely have had this happen and it wasn't at  Christmas.time.  Actually, about last March one of these UPS access points notices was put in my door(this was a first delivery).  I discovered the access point to be about 20 or 25 minutes from my home and refused to pick up the item.

When I received my bill from QVC it included both the original cost of shipping the item ($7.95) plus another $7.95 for returning it to the Q.  I immediately called QVC and customer service refunded the entire amount to my account.  Will say I did have to go back and forth a bit to get this done but CS was most courteous and understanding during the process.

My son,,a driver for UPS  told me this has now become a new policy for the Q and other companies but obviously not used all the time as most of my packages are now delivered by the Post Office.  He agreed with me this new method is not what we expect when we order an item.  Not only is it inconvenient and time consuming but many people order because they are home bound, certainly unable to get out and drive to an access point.  Plus the cost for shipping was the same as it would have been if delivered to my home.

This hasn't happened since so I'm crossing my fingers.it won't happen again.

Forgot to mention that I live in a neighbourhood which prohibits entrance by strangers; so we never have thiefs  I was inside but didn't even have time to get to the door till the driver was gone.

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

@SoX

I had a similar conversation with a UPS supervisor awhile back. I track my packages closely and am 99% of the time home when they come. Occasionally when regular driver is off and substitute is lazy they end up centrally.

FedEx and LaserShip totally different story which is why I prefer to avoid them whenever possible.

This is a big reason I have been drawn to do more shopping with HSN. They use UPS for everything I have purchased and they do not transfer to USPS even though they could.

This is not new.  They have been doing this in soe areas for a while.

It helps prevent thefts, lost packages, and claims that left packages were never delivered.

There is no reason to get bent out pf shape about it.

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

UPS has been doing this in Queens NY for about two years.  If you are not home they bring packages to a drugstore where I l ive.  You cannot pick up until afer three pm next day.  I have complained about this to no avail.
