Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

I occasionally sign into my UPS account and change the delivery to an access point. I do this because the UPS guy gets here so late. Sometimes close to 9:00 pm. My package will usually be delivered to the access point by 10:00 am. Works great just in case you don't want hubby seeing what you buy also.

I had a similar conversation with a UPS supervisor awhile back. I track my packages closely and am 99% of the time home when they come. Occasionally when regular driver is off and substitute is lazy they end up centrally.

FedEx and LaserShip totally different story which is why I prefer to avoid them whenever possible.

This is a big reason I have been drawn to do more shopping with HSN. They use UPS for everything I have purchased and they do not transfer to USPS even though they could.

On the other hand if you are out of town a lot and on short notice, like us, I am far happier with having USPS deliver because if I put a mail hold yellow card in the mailbox they don't plop it on the porch.  I'm not worried if it take an extra day or two, I know my mail well be taken care of if we are away.

I surely have had this happen and it wasn't at  Christmas.time.  Actually, about last March one of these UPS access points notices was put in my door(this was a first delivery).  I discovered the access point to be about 20 or 25 minutes from my home and refused to pick up the item.

When I received my bill from QVC it included both the original cost of shipping the item ($7.95) plus another $7.95 for returning it to the Q.  I immediately called QVC and customer service refunded the entire amount to my account.  Will say I did have to go back and forth a bit to get this done but CS was most courteous and understanding during the process.

My son,,a driver for UPS  told me this has now become a new policy for the Q and other companies but obviously not used all the time as most of my packages are now delivered by the Post Office.  He agreed with me this new method is not what we expect when we order an item.  Not only is it inconvenient and time consuming but many people order because they are home bound, certainly unable to get out and drive to an access point.  Plus the cost for shipping was the same as it would have been if delivered to my home.

This hasn't happened since so I'm crossing my fingers.it won't happen again.

Forgot to mention that I live in a neighbourhood which prohibits entrance by strangers; so we never have thiefs  I was inside but didn't even have time to get to the door till the driver was gone.

You make very good points, Hilo. There will be many unhappy home bound customers if this practice becomes more wide spread.

I've lived here 30 years and don't even know my neighbors other than an occasion "hi" I doubt I could pick them out of a lineup. Most of the time I just don't want to wait until 9:00 for my stuff. I want to get comfy and go to bed. I can have it delivered to a local store five minutes from home and be back home in a flash and admiring my new stuff.

I arrange  for pick up at UPS on all packages so I know it can not get stolen or delivered to wrong address. My ups facility is only 2 miles from me.

I haven't heard of this where I live...and if I had to drive to an access point (ups about 20 minutes away, without traffic), I'd rather not order online.

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

This happened to me today for the first time for 2 items I paid shipping and handling for after one delivery attempt.  They didn't even give me the option to sign the slip for next day delivery just where to pick it up within 7 days between 9-5 PM.

I'm going to speak with my driver, who is a great guy, but unfortunately if this is the new norm for UPS/QVC shipped items I'll be shopping much less here.

Re: UPS Customer Access Points!

@Nightowlz If you know your UPS Driver he/She will leave your package with a neighbor or at your back door like my UPS person does..However,if it's a replacement worker they will leave a note and take your package to a designated store and e-mail to tell you when the package will be available for pick-up.. Theey will not attempt to deliver to you again..they have changed their POLICY about that and you are not an exception,I believe no matter how much you complain.

@stellabystarlight, yes this happened just today.  I was in the basement and didn't hear the doorbell.  UPS left a note telling my sister (it was her package) where to pick it up (a deli a couple of blocks from home).  She called UPS to ask why this was done, and they told her that they want to cut down on the number of stolen packages now that people are doing their holiday shopping.  If she wants a package to be left at the door, she has to go into her UPS online account and authorize leaving the package with no signature required.  We have a side door with three steps down, so smaller packages left at the bottom can't be seen from the sidewalk -- unless, of course, someone is watching.
