I know you rarely watch or buy anymore from QVC.....but do you have any thoughts......I know you and I and many others could have predicted these results....

Well @Spurt I can only say that even I didn't expect it to be this bad...

Domestically, they can try to spin things however they like, but that report looks pretty dire to me... Of course, anybody with half a brain (and even a single finger on the pulse of their customers...) might have begun to anticipate this sort of result several years ago... I know we did... I mean come on... One can only ride the same horse for so long before it goes, well, lame... And speaking of lame... I look at the program guide regularly and I continue to see the same old - same old... What is it going to take for them to get that the same old just isn't going to cut it anymore?

I also continue to see no meaningful changes in unfavorable customer policies or customer incentives. Again, is it going to take all out corporate collapse for them to make needed changes?

I look at merchandise and continue to see high prices and shipping... HELLO... I was looking at the offerings for the upcoming silver event and was shocked at the prices they're asking for silver jewelry... Do they honestly think they can make up lost ground by raising prices when high prices are one of the reasons often cited by those indicating they've curtailed their Q shopping?

They're missing on all cylinders and it appears they intend to keep on doing so, relying on positive spin to cure what ails them. It's not going to work going forward any better than it's worked before... I also have to say I strongly suspect that anything they do at this point, not that their intent seems to be to do anything meaningful... will be too little too late.

I also found it interesting that their mouthpiece for this report was a Liberty Interactive corporate officer and not dear Mikie... Could the handwriting be on the wall... ?

Now I ask you Spurt... are we the type to say 'told you so'...

@stevieb

Well stated!!! Woman Very Happy...Ill be Captain Obvious ---pretty sad outcome!!! ..now I don't know about you....but I just gotta say it....afterall, arent we the ones that have sat through this catastrophe..... Smiley Wink

HEY QVC WE TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe that with these results their response is to add new shows and new hosts, with the same dull stuff..... And their venture into the Beauty IQ channel seems to be as "successful" as their other "bright" ideas......Yet TPTB will scratch their heads in wonder and can't figure it out (but funny how the customers can see it so clearly) ......... Isn't that usually how the the beginning of the end begins in the retail world.......Will Mr. Mike or Greggy will be the fall guy this time......Gee wonder what Miss Claire is doing these days.......

@Spurt Their non-response to this ongoing debacle continues to be utterly astounding. As does the fact that they'll apparently try any new gimmick that occurs to their fractured minds but fail to address the core problems. It's been said time and time again, but doing the same things and expecting different results is the very definition of lunacy... They can offer as many 'new' channels as remain available on the cable dial and it isn't going to make a bit of difference when they just keep showing the same things... How many ridiculous 'bright ideas' have they now tried and put asunder rather than simply freshening their overall 'product'... Frankly, I've lost count... They need to face it. They're 'stuck' and they don't know what to do and YET heaven forbid they actually listen to their customers... Apparently they'd rather go glub-glub-glub before they do that... I have no idea who the scapegoat will be this time around (poor Moms...) but if I got a vote, I say the qwap trickles down from the top...

No surprise why QVC tanks in Electronics while HSN does well. All of QVC's electronic merchandise is old technology and extremely overpriced for that old technology. HSN offers fresher mdse, slightly newer models and better prices. No-brainer.

@Spurt.....WOW, GREAT THREAD!  Thanks....I enjoyed reading it.  I knew the Q wasn't doing too well, but didn't know they had "Tanked" that much this past quarter.

SO interesting.  US revenues decreased 7-9% in the fourth quarter which includes the all important holiday season.  Not good.  OVerall US revenues decreased 2% in 2016 with declines in all categories except apparel.  EVidently THere are a lot of people who are pleased with the QVC clothing offerings.

@KathyPet....good point.  I know I didn't purchase but about 3 items the whole holiday season from the Q....going out to the good ole' B&M stores more for the past year.

Re: Q DID WHAT? QVC 4th QUARTER RESULTS

[ Edited ]

I've been shopping with the Q since first quarter 2008, if I recall correctly.  Perhaps it started because my husband died and later that year I found out we had QVC on cable while I was recovering from surgery.  Perhaps it was the novelty of shopping at the Q.  All I can say is I spent considerable money on things here for a few years.  I liked Denim & Co, George Simonton, Linda Dano furniture/decor etc.  They had pretty cool things I'd never seen before.  Then I discovered the mother of all stores - Amazon.  Not that I shop on Amazon all that much, heck I never enrolled in their Prime program.

I like the variety.  I prefer Prezerve jewelry storage for my sterling, which I bought alot of from the Q.  Little by little I saw my choices declining.  The only game in town from a jewelry storage perspective became Lori Grenier.  I got nothing against Lori.

I liked the Steel by Design jewerly alot.  Prices shot up on that and the selection in designs took a turn that I didn't want to follow.  So I found Stately Steel, elsewhere.

Like I said, I don't know if businesses went out of business or what.  We lost Birkenstock, they killed off great house brands like Motto and the prices of Graver and Denim & Co shot through the roof for what they are (IMHO).

I don't know, I guess all businesses have to evolve.  Every once in a while I get something cool here like that Snow Joe crazy looking 2 handled shovel that I can't rave about enough.  I like my occasional Oryany handbag.

I will say one thing that HSN does that puts the Q to shame - that channel knows how to have a clearance sale.  They also reimburse me the difference when a price goes down in 30 days - caught them on that more than once, lol.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

@KathyPet

I think QVC has developed a loyal customer base for some of its designers---to me it's a puzzlement because I find QVC's apparel---not competitive in terms of price,  the quality has decreased, and their sizing is inconsistent......I returned so many clothing items that I have just given up and shop elsewhere......  For those that like the designers and clothing that's great, but it won't get me to keep watching, shopping, and buying.....

BINGO....BINGO....BINGO!!!!!  I agree wholeheartedly!  For example.....I have LOGO's tops that I purchased when she first came on the Q.  Some about 29-34.00, but not anymore.....too darn expensive and I will not pay those ridiculous prices.  And don't get me started on the return fees for shipping and handling, lol......

So revenue for beauty products has declined so they start a entirely separate Beauty channel to,flog products that have declining sales.  Left scratching head!

@KathyPet.....I simply do not understand that either.  I don't even watch the channel.  I don't understand why they are spending money like that.

I would like to see them bring Alberti back during the day on the regular program.  I buy my makeup from HSN and some from the drug stores or Walmart.

@Moonchilde......I agree.  I buy all my eletronics from HSN....from my telephone, to IPADS, to a wonderful shredder I just purchased about 6 months ago.  The prices and free s&h and overall quality is much better at HSN.  I have only purchased one electronic item last year from the Q.....and that was the Halo bolt for my car.
