And thats THE PROBLEM!!!! This sales pitch is cutting off part of QVC's potential customer base. QVC recently shared their 4th quarter results (retail's busiest season) and the results weren't good....(revenue was down 8 to 9%)....This is from their press release:

“Revenue performance at QxH deteriorated throughout the fourth quarter. We are not pleased with these results and are actively taking steps to improve our long-term performance across business units."

@Spurt   Thanks for this information.  Wow.  I know the QxH results are combined for QVC and HSN, but this is very telling!  The Qurate PR machine always tries to spin positivity in all of their results.  So to see them actually state, "Revenue performance at QxH deteriorated throughout the fourth quarter," is very bad, to say the least.  I cannot see business as usual in the coming months.

They should just have a script. Otherwise, they will be offending someone and lose that purchase.

I'd pay money to hear a host describe someone as being a "busy single".

Pat tends to latch onto certain phrases and repeat them incessantly for years.

@Spurt - If the pitch were ever, "This item is only good for busy moms," I'd agree. But that is simply not what happens. The host may introduce a vendor by saying she is a busy mom, or they may mention that an item is great for busy moms. However, they also talk about things that are great for empty nesters, college students, RV owners, crafters, gardeners, ladies who lunch, kids doing schoolwork at home, pet owners, people who travel a lot, fashionistas, wine afficionados, and those who decorate in the farmhouse style. Not one of those descriptions applies to me, yet I never feel offended or excluded when they are offered as examples of people a product may be beneficial for.

If a sales pitch on a home shopping network makes somebody feel alienated, there are bigger issues at play. Of course, everyone is entitled to think and feel as they choose, but when the intent is clearly innocent, it is hard to side with someone who chooses to believe a broadly applicable statement is a personal attack.

By saying that, she's flattering herself as much as them, because she was and is a mom and a busy one at that.

@ValuSkr I think it is a super long and unwarranted stretch of the imagination to say she is flattering herself.  Not to mention unkind.

Pat seems to be a very humble person.  Every other word out of her mouth is an apology.  Her daughter is an adult, gone from the nest.  I doubt Pat thinks if herself as a "busy mom".

All the hosts have phrases or words they say quite often.

David - We'll get you squared away.  "What?"

Mary Beth- Etc. and many others

Jennifer giggles all the time along with Alberti

and endless things from Jane T.

and when they say "Hello Spring" or some other holiday

and Literally

there are so many things they all say over and over.

I get very tired of the things they say over and over, but if I had to talk constantly for 2-4 hours it just wouldn't happen.  There are many things I'm sure that the Q has them say for sales pitches too.

So it's not just Pat, who I think does a fantastic job.

Edited: Something I forgot "look at how" from most of them.  That is not correct English and it drives me crazy.  It should be "look how"

And I must say I DO like Pat as a host very much, she's very professional and pleasant....

IMO Pat is the host with the greatest staying power.  "Here's the beauty of it", I can still enjoy her presentations after over 30 years of watching her.  The rest have all gotten in my nerves at some point, like Mary Beth with  "here's the thing"or her constant use of "et cettra" (I've never heard anyone use this verbally).  I like Jayne Brown without Pat, Carolyn, Ali and the rest I don't at all or just barely tolerate

A person whose every other word is an apology is not humble...they are insecure.

Is there ANYTHING that a host won't be criticized for?? What's next? Breathing???
