I get annoyed when people give something one star and their comments are irrelevant to the quality of the item: it took two weeks to get here, they didn't have the size I need so I had to order a diffent size, etc.

Have only seen nasty intolerance on these blogs.

Hate filled "reviews" permeated the Ruby Royale reviews following presentations. Those reviews attacked the guest, not the product.

I agree with you and there are some that if you say black, they will say white......

@CorrTor. Reviews have recently started being verified. You'll see the word "Verified" under t h e title of many, meaning the person actually purchased the item.
There are products I bought that I never reviewed but I would not hardly make a review on something I never bought. Why would I? Got better things, well, WAY too busy to do that. If I make a review it's because I was either VERY disappointed or VERY happy.

I agree with the OP.... Take a look at the "reviews" for Valerie's Valentine cupcake houses....
Most of the reviews are complaining that they are an advanced order and haven't even ordered them.
3 pages of 'reviews' and they haven't even shipped out yet...

I am not sure where the reviews are nasty. The reviews are expressing opiinions. They don't seem to meet their standards. I would rather know the opinions before I buy.
Not liking something and giving a reason helps...

They must just use software to scan for certain prohibited words and phrases. There's no other explanation for what they allow to be posted and it's unfair to the vendors. These people bring the overall rating down just to voice a negative opinion with no useful information about the actual product. That's not a review.
But it's not going to change. QVC has had years to improve its "review" system and hasn't bothered.
@Venezia I completely agree with you. I have also seen the other side of the pendulum.
I have seen many 5-star ratings from people who have clearly not purchased/received the item. "I love that Harry is back!" "Finally a petite tunic, but make it in 100% cotton." "I didn't get this, but I'm thrilled they have spring colors."
QVC uses "customer top rated" or "customer pick" in their sales pitch -- a lot. I would bet sales go up immediately when that statement is mentioned. It's all a part of the game.
If they got rid of the low ratings from people who did not purchase/receive the item, they'd have to do the same thing with similar high ratings. But that's probably their bread & butter for additional sales.
Don't get me wrong, I still really like reading the reviews. Most can be very helpful, if there are enough of them and a pattern emerges (sizing issues, material quality, technical issues). I read them individually, taken with a grain of salt. I just don't pay attention to ratings.

Every business uses a system to audit reviews, often third party systems over which they don't have any control. They aren't reviewed by live people.
