Many complaints from QVC shoppers about receiving used fashion items

[ Edited ]

Why has this not been addressed by QVC?  The hosts say on air that when you buy from QVC, you get new NOT WORN items....supposedly the plus of shopping with QVC over a box store. OK, then why is QVC shipping out used dirty clothes and shoes?  Obviously QVC IS shipping out items returned from other customers that have been worn.  I myself received a skirt with a Kleenex in the pocket once.... I also received a garment with another QVC customers return slip taped to the bag....guess whoever sent it back out forgot to remove it first......

This is is just WRONG and very poor marketing practices if a company verbally says everything sold is new and never worn.    Shame on QVC.

People should call CS when that happens.  Complaining on a blog won't solve the problem.  I never order clothes, but I did order shoes once that looked worn and I called to complain and they made it right for me.  Just saying.

They used to say that - I don't think they do any more.  I think QVC has been re-selling returned items for years now.

A "box" store?  Did you mean brick and mortar?

I often wondered wear the shoes and clothes go after they are done presenting them.  I thought maybe the hosts and models got them.  I have heard of people getting dirty kleenex in their handbags.  That would gross me out! I still say call customer service because they need to know.  If they get enough complaints then maybe they will do something.

I believe they sell the returns, items used as demos, etc. as As Is items for sale. I know I have ordered and received items that were supposed to be new and they looked worn and were not in new packaging. I just returned them as damaged and wrote on the return slip why I considered the item damaged.

Re: Many complaints from QVC shoppers about receiving used fashion items

There are millions of sales and millions of customers every year so am wondering what does "many" mean?  I read on their annual report or a similar piece about the company that a couple of years ago that around 173M packages were shipped that year.

I've personally never received an item that I thought was used or a return and I've been shopping with QVC since the beginning.  I admit I don't buy very much from them any more, but when I do the items I receive ar obviously new.  I would suggest though that anyone who thinks they have a returned or used item that they contact Customer Service directly.

If you go to Dillards LOTS of items on the racks have those yellow POP labels on them because people return them.  If you are going to let people return stuff, you have to resell it. It's one way or the other or none of us could afford to buy things.

It's totally unrealistic to expect retailers to allow returns and not put them back on the shelf.

I cannot say that I have EVER received anything that was not first quality, but when I watch those shoe shows with Jane, I am glad I'm not a size 7. There's something about trying on shoes without peds or sox that gets me.

@Sooner As the poster above stated, for many, many years the hosts did say that the item we received home would be fresh out of the package, never tried on before, unlike when you go ot a store.  It used to be a selling point of pride.

As I stated above, I haven't heard that in a long time at the Q because the Q has been re-selling returns. But that wasn't always the case.  I do think they've done it with non As Is items; in fact I'm sure they do because I received a very expensive Logo Links necklace several weeks ago that was clearly a customer return and was not shipped to me As Is and certainly not at an As Is price.   A wonderful CS person here on the board (a Mod) helped me with that situation. I do buy a lot of As Is items and expect those to be customer returns but for what I paid for this jewelry item (full price) I certainly didn't expect it to arrive in the condition it did and not in a Logo Links box either.  It was clearly a returned item that wasn't As Is.

But anyway, my point is that QVC used to not re-sell returns back in the earlier days.  I think it sold off pallets of returns to outlets, sellers on Ebay, etc. but didn't ship them out to customers esp. those who paid full price.  As Is seems to be a fairly recent thing..

Re: Many complaints from QVC shoppers about receiving used fashion items

Recently I saw Sharon, or one of the hosts, presenting clothing clearance items and she really emphasized that every clearance item -- regardless of the line -- is brand new.  Nothing is ever picked over like, you find in regular department store clearances.  They simply need to make room in their warehouse.  Yeah, right.  Obviously, totally fabricated baloney.

It seems only honest as well as ethical that once something is returned -- especially clothing -- that it should be resold "AS IS.
