Lovesdishes some jobs do recognize anniversaries. Where I work five, ten, fifteen, twenty year anniversaries and beyond are acknowledged through gift cards or certificates of recognition.

Lucky you!  I was an educator for 27 years and being a public employee there were no gifts or recognition  until you retirred.

My late husband used to get certificates; he threw them out and said "show me the money".  Haha

I don't think that luck has anything to do with it.

We each choose our profession.

Private employers have compensation not available in the public sector. 

We all make life choices.

 I stopped watching when I realized that it wasn't much of a tribute and  25+ minutes were spent on the TSV.  If Pat got what she wanted, fine,  but you wouldn't call it celebratory.

After 25 years with the same employer, I got a diamond bracelet and dinner out with the boss, his wife and staff of 12.
