Re: Ditching the Q card

[ Edited ]

@frenchie - Here are a few responses to your questions:

• Yes, you can use a debit card for Easy Pay as long as it is issued by a
major card association such as Visa or Mastercard.

• If you use a debit card for purchases, the charges will appear on your
   regular bank account statement.

• If you want to close your Q Card account, go to the Synchrony Bank
website and select "Close Account" from the "Services" menu. Or you
can call them to cancel using the number on the website, if preferred.

I have received electronic statements from Synchrony for my Q Card for a long time, and I actually like having the option to avoid more paper waste in my mailbox. Each month, you will get an email notification that your statement is available to view online; the message includes a link to the website and a summary of your balance, minimum payment due, and payment due date. The electronic statements are identical to the paper ones, and if you want to retain a copy for your records, you can easily download them (and print them if desired). Simply go to the "Statements" menu on the Synchrony website to find the option for switching to electronic statements.

If you have any other questions, just ask! Happy to help if I can...

@RespectLife My Amazon card is connected with Chase, not Synchrony.

I think I'm going to continue the paper statements for now, until

my few easy pays are done. I will also stop ordering and discontinue using the card.  I prefer not to get electronic statements and don't appreciate being forced to do so without a penalty, I'm old school and simple.

I think using a debit card is risky. I’d rather use a credit card for sure. If your debit card is compromised the thief can wipe out your entire bank account tied to that debit card and yes you will get your money back eventually, but it takes months.

However I do know people who play it safe and have a separate bank account that they put money into to cover purchases they make using their debit card. 🤗

So if I keep my Q card, how do you get your bill? Email or do I have to sign up on the Synchrony site?

It would handy to keep a credit for other purchases too.

When you log into their site there should be a drop-down menu about notifications etc.  Then you can be notified when a statement is ready.

You can also set up other notifications such as payment received and transactions in real time.

@frenchie I BELIEVE YOU MISUNDERSTOOD .YOU CAN STILL GET A PAPER STATEMENT BUT YOU WILL BE CHARGED $1.99 for it. I like getting paper statements and i will now pay off my card completely and never use it again.i will use discover and get cash back and get a paper statement free of charge

I use my debit card for easy pay. I don't have a credit card. If you are on easy pay they simply take the payment automatically each month and you can pay your balance off early or in full at any time which I always do when I know I won't be returning an item.

@chlema

Yours is probably an Amazon Rewards Visa...that is handled through Chase.

Amazon has a plain old 'store' card, just like Q and HSN etc...which is only handled through Synchrony.

This is what it says on the Q FAQ's:

Enjoy Now

  • With an Easy Pay offer, you can receive an item now and pay monthly installments at no extra charge.
  • Pay with your QCard®, major credit card, or PayPal account.

I always use my debit card, which is a mastercard, for all my purchases. I've never had a problem.

I bank at Wells Fargo and it doesn't take months to recover your money. The one time my card was compromised, I received my funds instantly while the bank did their investigation on the back end. Also, you do not have to have all of your money in the account tied to your debit card. Some folks just keep a small amount in there, what they intend to use for debit card use.
