My rescue pup Negrita has become a very picky eater....any suggestions as to a pet food brand that your picky eater loves? I am not going to make dog food, so only suggestions of pre made dog please.... Canned, dry or refrigerated.

We had a little rescue that would eat ONLY Royal Canin Beauty wet.  Wouldn't touch anything else.

The kibble is Chi-Chi's main food.   She's been wolfing down the kibble now for a year.

The soft can food is only given to hide her nasty tasting liquid cough medicine.

Negrita is from Mexico like Chi-Chi.  No telling what these dogs are use to eating.  American dog food NOT.  Took me awhile to find kibble Chi-Chi liked.  The girl who cleans my house is from Mexico.  When she comes to clean she brings a stack of home made tortillias for Chi-Chi which she wolfs down.  Reminds her of home.  If you know anyone from Mexico who makes home made tortillias, try that.  They can be frozen.

A trick I learned.  Crumble up her favorite treat into new dog food.  Give a little less each day for 7 days.

HTH & good luck!

@Mz iMac   The dog food advisory is not too keen on Kibbles and bits...I want her to eat but, not  something rated with a one star rating, and corn as the first ingredient.

Thanks for that link.

I give her the "small breed" kibble.  Chi-Chi has not suffered any ill effects from Kibble & Bits.  Always a clean bill of health from the vet except for her winter colds.

@SeaMaiden    Have you had her teeth checked to see if she could have a dental problem?

I sure wouldn't give my dogs tortillas.  They're made with lard, the worst kind of fat.

@Mz iMac    A poor quality diet is not immediately apparent as they can subsist on it.  However it can cause problems as they age (just like people) and shorten lifespan.

Re: Picky eater

@Kachina624   I will bring this up to the vet to check out her next checkup. She is young, but that does not mean she could not have a chipped tooth or the like. Thanks for the suggestion.

Our little picky eater liked Blue Buffalo Divine Delights. It is a pate texture. He was always picky from his puppy days through his senior years. We had times when he would only eat browned hamburger meat, steamed rice, and cottage cheese. He would never eat kibble.

Good luck getting your little one satisfied. Checking teeth for problems is very important. A dog's instinct is to hide pain. Watch for bad breath. It often accompanies gum and teeth issues.

@Kachina624  I rescued Chi-Chi from Mexico when she was approximately 6yrs old.  Her background is unknown.  She's currently in her 8th year.  No gray showing.

Her vet sees no issues w/the kibble as she is maintaining her weight, good muscle tone for her age, shiny coat.  Chi-Chi is a Chihuahua mix (terrier?) & the vet does not want her to gain over 12 lbs because of her "chicken legs."  As of a week ago she's 9 lbs.  She fluxuates between 9 -10 lbs.  She weighed 7 1/2 lbs when I got her.

As for the tortillias, she gets 1 or 2 as a snack only once a week (Sundays).  For all I & the vet knows, she survived on spicy scraps & tortillias for 6 yrs.  Her initial health screen came back negative as well as the last 2 screens----no heartworm, lyme, or any other doggie disease was evident.  She still has all her teeth plus they are in good health.  No sign of plaque.  She's never needed teeth cleaning.  I continue to give her Greenies before bedtime.

The vet seems more concerned w/her weight than anything else.  Per vet, for her body structure, if she gains over 12 lbs, she will suffer sprained and/or broken legs from running or jumping around or jumping off of something.
