It is like a punch in the stomach.  It's early in the process to know how things will go.  Keep the faith.  🐾

Re: Just found out my 8 year-year old Sheltie has cancer

Sooo sad your going through this with your poor dog.
I've been through 2 losses recently also...both cancer. One lymphoma, and my lab had bone cancer. I should mention, a third, my cat had ear cancer that spread. My best heartfelt advice to you would be, keep them as comfortable as can be...within your means. All said, it's a very tough place to be in... stay strong and be thankful for the love you've shared.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that.   Do you think a second opinion is an option?    We believed that both of our cats would have lived longer if we had changed vets.

@AbbyK

It won't be easy, but you have to try to focus on the time you have left with your baby and make that time the best possible for all of you..

But IF it looks like he's in pain and nothing can be done, I want to share this poem with you, that really helped me when I knew that it was time to let him go, for his sake.

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
