Did you find it easy to name your new dog (adult or puppy) or did you find yourself waiting until a name that seemed right popped into your head?
For me, it was the latter. My previous (adult) dog had a name she didn't really respond to (the shelter called by it) and I tried a few at home until we both seemed to be happy with the one we finally chose.
What sort of methods did you all use?

So, what did you name her?

In my family we always give a name right away, but sometimes as with people a characteristic or incident creates a nickname which sticks and becomes the name most often used.

Our dog, Willoughby, that we have now, got his name like this: We had just lost our Quincy. I didn't even know if I wanted another dog, at least not yet. My DH was having a hard time, too, but wanted to get another right away. I happened to be reading a book where a town was mentioned named Willoughby. The name kind of clicked with me.........thinking, I will put this in the back of my mind. In the meantime, DH called and learned that there was a litter and that there was one unclaimed puppy. I gave in, we went and looked, and of course fell in love. The father was named Wilbe and the mother's name was Lola. Wil - Lo - be. I don't believe in signs, but we named him Willoughby.

@GingerPeach I rescued my first boy when he was just shy of 11 months old. He came with the name Eli (from his original home). It didn't suit him. It took a couple days before I knew his name was Jake. It was just right, and we both knew it. He was definitely Jake!
I got my second boy at just 50 days old. After 24 hours, I hadn't figured out his name, and decided to call him Charlie until I did figure it out. The next morning, when I was calling out "Charlie," "TYLER" came out of my mouth. I tried a few other names over the next couple of days, but with whatever name I tried, "TYLER" kept coming out of my mouth. My beautiful Tyler will be 14 in October.
Jake died almost four years ago, and I got a puppy two months later. It took about 5 weeks of trying a lot of names for him to finally tell me that he's Jasper. Jazz or Jazzy for short. He had tummy problems when he was a pup, and was anything but Jazzy, so I thought it was a little peculiar for that to be his name, but I knew it was right. The tummy issues are long since gone, and he is indeed Jazzy! ( BTW..... I felt like an idiot for not having a proper name for him for 5 weeks, but nothing was right until Jasper popped into my head, and then, I instantly knew it was his name)

Well, we got a Golden Retriever pup at age 8 weeks. I wanted to call her Bella, but my son (grown/married/3 kids) had a legitimate problem with that name. So I decided to name her after my best friend who had died a few years earlier. Her name is Jessie and it's perfect for her. She's 5 now and the most wonderful dog I've ever known. But I'll stop now cuz I could go on and on and on about her (and usually do).

One of my friends that I commuted to work with had a dog named Cooper and one named Gracie. I always thought it would be fun to have a pair of dogs named George and Gracie, but unfortunately I never got the pair. Instead I have a little boy named Bentley and have my little girl named Grace, whom I refer to as the Amazing Gracie ... I just loved the name and it fits her perfectly.

The rescue I adopted my dog from had named her Stacy but I named her Brandy. I chose that mainly because of her tan coloring. When I adopted my cat I had 2 names picked out before I found the cat - Chloe or Jasmine. She is a tortie and I named her Jasmine.

I had a big, beautiful black tri colored collie named Jett. He died about 3 years ago. Last December I adopted a rescue who is a small version of Jett, a miniature American (Aussie) shepherd, also a black tri color, similar in color. Since hes a small jet, i named him Piper after Piper Cub, a smaller aircraft.
