@DiAnne That's a New England thing. My father also liked apple pie with a wedge of cheddar. It is, in my opinion, a delicious combination.

Macaroni and cheese with applesuce
Potato chips with mayonnaise on white bread
Eating potato chips while drinking a glass of milk.
Spam and grape jam sandwich.
Some of these combos sound really good!

Bacon, Banana & Mayo on white bread (only). Don't want any healthy grains bread to ruin the experience. ![]()

Good crisp pears and a glass of milk! Love that!
I really didn't find anything here I wouldn't try. Or anything I thought was terribly gross for that matter! But then you have to consider that's from someone who has had green salad with baby octopuses in it, and alligator several ways.
The worst things I ever ate were Marmite and Vegamite. Oh my goodness!

@Soonerjust curious --you ever have nightmares about the alligator or octupus ? ![]()
These are not healthy combo suggestions that I mention but I have been know to eat green olives or capers in a serving of cottage cheese - a lot of sodium for someone with HBP. Also when in a mood for savory - potato chips with ice cream.

French toast w/applesauce. Always ate it that way growing up. Probably because my parents couldn't afford maple syrup, but we loved it and didn't know any different ![]()

@okaywitheasypay LOL!!! NO. No nightmares or indegention even! And olives? OH my I love olives. Those olive bars get me, and I love olive bread and when I was a kid and we ate stuff like that, I loved olive loaf.
Now I'll put mayo on some good bread, stick olive slices to it, and put some good un-cured ham or turkey on it and play like it's olive loaf!

I would not go near it now but as a child my grandmother and mother would give me RAW ground round mixed with salt, pepper and onions on bread.
I have never met anyone else who was given this combo as a
child. If I mention it to anyone, they seem to be shocked.
Restaurants now market this as steak tartare.

@Mersha. Steak tartare has been around forever in the better restaurants. They never used grocery store beef though.
I was never given that, but I was handed a raw French fry before my Mom fried them. LOL

@proudlyfromNJ Proudly, at least the raw French fry would not kill you!
I remember they went to a small neighborhood store to have the steak ground up. It must have been something that was passed down through the generations. I grew up in Pittsburgh and thought it might be something they did in the area but that does not seem to be the case.
No one that I know of had this as a child. Everyone that I mention it to is grossed out. ![]()
